Finding out club mark average

Hi all,

Is it acceptable to email an appointments secretary to find out what my average club mark was for the season?

Anyone had any experiences of doing this?

Thanks for your help.

The Referee Store
Will be interesting to see what some on here say. One of the leagues I do (Saturday) sent me my average with an invitation to remain on the panel for next year. My other league (Sunday) I have no idea - though would be curious.

Some will email it to you - I've only had one email me so far and I know at least one other league I referee on them will email me marks, so I'd hang on for now. If they haven't sent you anything by the end of the month, then a polite email asking for them should be fine.

I once asked my ref sec (three leagues) some seasons ago, he said he'd look all he told me was don't worry, no problems there......
Never bothered about club marks since. I think some of you may know what I think of them........

I'm past caring about club marks too. I expect the away team yesterday gave me the minimum permitted without having to submit a report. Mind you, I did have the gall to send off two of their players, both for two yellows. I must be a bad referee!

Don't concern yourself with club marks just yet. Your refereeing will be assessed objectively by observers. Subjective, irrational and uneducated marks from clubs based on the result and something innocuous as a foul throw are worthless(in the main). Some clubs can raise themselves to give honest opinions but they are few in number

I wouldn't waste your time. For parks football, they are completely irrelevant and most often bear no resemblance to the game you've refereed.

As you go up and do better teams in better leagues, then they start to mark more objectively as opposed to "we've just lost the game, i'm p****d off, so let's give the referee a Crap Mark"

The formula for working out your average club mark is:

Number of matches where there was a winning team * 95
Number of matches where there was a losing team * 61
(Number of matches where the result was a draw * 2) * 80

Add the three numbers together, and divide by (2 * total number of matches).

e.g. You refereed 20 games. 15 matches had a winner (and therefore 15 matches has a loser), and 5 matches were a draw.

15 * 95 = 1,425
15 * 61 = 915
(5 * 2) * 80 = 800

Total Club Marks = 3,140

So, Average Club Mark = Total Club Marks / (Total Matches * 2) = 3,140 / 40 = 78.5

No. Yes. Don't do it. Our County FA are keen on average marks not being disclosed for the reasons given in the preceding posts.

I'm a league referees' appointments officer, and I get a lot of people asking for club marks. They either get a) nothing there to worry about, or b) something there to worry about!! If it's B, the call is usually going the other way.

The only exception I made to this was a 6-4 candidate last year: he was only getting three 5-4 assessments and so needed to be in the top 50% of club marks for his level 4 nomination to be successful. When he asked, I told him that he was in the top 50% - that's as specific as I've ever got!

I would always tell my referees what their marks were if they asked ...

... but, and this really is a big but, I put a big disclaimer in there that it was pointless complaining to me if they thought the marks were wrong. When I first started the role and gave out marks I'd have people ranting at me as if it was my fault, but the last time I checked it wasn't me marking the referees ..!

I have not done a lot of OA games but I imagine if I had bad marks consistently I would get a phone call or observation to discuss things?

You wouldn't get an observation, I know some of the appointment secretaries have asked a colleague to go down and "have a look" at a referee if this happens, just to see if there is anything glaring

Thanks for your help guys. On second thoughts, I think I'll leave it...
I asked for mine yesterday and got my average mark back with no problem, got it back about 20 minutes after asking

Only time I've been told club marks is when I got 100 from both teams. I paid no attention to it, at that point the marks are useless as I know for a fact that I didn't have a perfect game and I probably never will.

So... I've just received my club marks in a letter from the Sunday league I do OA ... 18 games 94.9... average is 83 for the league. Yes I'm pleased but ... but ... I feel that I may be doing something wrong ?
I asked the ref sec and he was very matter of fact about his reply x amount of marks divided by 2 divided by 18 is what you scored

If it makes you feel any better, I got the letter from I think the same league and scored 80.66....and that didn't fill me with joy either! Think that just proves the point that club marks aren't a good thing to worry about!

yes @GraemeS , i think between us we are a very good example of why club marks are to be ignored at our level
