The Referee Store
See you next season. Did you all pass?

Indeed, thanks for convincing me!

Sam didn't...he had about 1k left but was struggling to breathe properly so he had to stop. Another guy failed in the 2nd heat before we went home.

Congrats to all that passed. For those that didn't, good luck in July and learn from this time out to go again next time. Chin up.
Pleased to say i completed 2.8k in the 12 mins.

So how do they ensure you do actually have a general form of fitness?
I agree that they're unnecessary perhaps at Sunday league level (as I'm sure we'd lose half of the referees if they had to do a test due to their lack of fitness!) but at level 4+ the pace of the game requires a certain fitness level.

How do you measure fitness? I have never continually run for 12 minutes in a game as the pace varies significantly and stoppages occur regularly? So, how do you measure what is an accurate measurement of fitness?

In Northern Ireland we do the FIFA Assistant tests are they better than the FA's are our referees fitter? I know boys who run marathons but get a lot of decisions wrong and I mean a lot because they don't know what position to get into or don't understand the LOTG. To me fitness is a small part but yet is considered to be the most important part? Do you do a LOTG test as well?

Yes every promotion candidate is tested on the LOTG as well as the average mark they score based on the assessment scores they receive throughout the season.

Anyone elses doctors charging £20 for blood pressure certification? Never had to pay previous years but having been just now (i know, leaving it late but thats another story involving the doctors surgery) they wanted 20quid to sign the form.

Also good luck to every1 else taking the test on Sunday.

Will let you know after I've been in to get my reading tomorrow! They didn't mention it when I booked so I guess not.

Good luck to you too James. Guessing I won't see you at Brentwood ?!

nope, i had mine done at the docs on friday just gone and it was all gratis.
Although i have to say that as i was stuck in traffic and looking likely to miss my appointment with no other window of opportunity before the test on Sunday, i found it somewhat ironic that i could feel my blood pressure rising steadily !

Mine has always been free, via the practice nurse, at the two different GPs I've used so far.

Cheers guys. All my previous have been free lf charge... obviously I have paid it as I had no choice but I think I'll raise a complaint. And most likely change docs as this is just another issue amongst other problems.

I'll be at Bolton. I wanted Liverpool but couldnt see it on this Sunday. But it is there.. should have looked a bit harder before accepting bolton... think they are just about equidistant but I've heard the track at Liverpool is a touch quicker ;)

Did you have a doctor or nurse do it? I have a feeling that doctors will sometimes charge for procedures that nurses wouldn't.

it was a nurse. She called someone down from upstairs to check if it should or not.

My GP started charging towards the end of my time as an L3. They argued that there was nothing wrong with me, and that as I needed a certificate stamped it was a work thing rather than a medical thing.

And, whilst this might be controversial, I agree with that. In these times of austerity GP resources are at breaking point, so why should they devote time to doing BP checks for referees? Referees that will then earn, at least, £35 in their first competitive game after that GP test. It just isn't justifiable.

As I work in the City I went to a MediCentre once to get it done. The Doctor was incredulous, and just said it was a total waste of time. Having a low or high BP won't prove anything, and the majority of people who drop down dead during exercise have normal blood pressure and normal heart rate. She basically described it as the biggest waste of time and money she'd ever seen.
