faking to get a player sent off

Have a look at this clip at 1:43.

Once the ref gets the red card out the red number 12 makes a miraculous recovery from the leg breaker he received. Not the quick look first to see what the ref is doing.

Whether the tackle warranted a red or not this needs to be punished retrospectively.

The Referee Store
Kinda split here.

Hate it 100% and wish it wasn't in football, buuuuut it is.

The challenge looked dangerous, he did catch him. So if you're a player with a brain, you know the referee might send him off if you sell it well enough.

Funnily enough, when John Brooks spoke recently he jokingly said he wished there was times he could award a penalty and a caution for simulation for the same event. This is a case where it would be great if you could have a red card for the tackle and a caution for simulation 😆

Probably could get them with excessive celebration, when they jump up from a career ending challenge to celebrate the player being sent off/

I had that a couple of weeks ago for a penalty decision.

I thought there was contact, possibly enough for a penalty a real borderline one that I would possibly have hedge and gone no pen. However... the player absolutely launched himself into a swallow dive adding extra flourish into it. It was this that made me think nah... you're not getting anything now.

They don't help themselves most of the time. The diving makes the challenge look 100 times worse than it is which means I'm 100 times less likely to give them a pen if it was borderline.

This was exactly the case for this one. If he'd just gone to ground I think I might have gone with contact leading to a pen. The 'value added' fall just made me think the contact was trifling.
