Dutch Referee Blog - Week 12 Laws of the Game Quiz 2023-2024

With Q3, while Jan's answer may be correct and the most correct option, it's not the complete correct answer. The correct answer is a dropped ball to the goalkeeper in the penalty area (which may or may not be where the original ball became defective). This Q and the A seem to be inline with the...

    Law Changes from July 2024

This is your interpretation of "Players are responsible for the size and suitability of their shinguards". It clearly doesn't say referees are not responsible for the judgement or enforcing it. It just says players are responsible for it's size and stability. They are also responsible for...

    Law Changes from July 2024

" Now everyone can agrees size is important. 😂 BAD: "Players are responsible for the size and suitability of their shinguards" What does this...

    Team Official Second Caution

Law 5 is very specific for team officials that the referee "shows a yellow card for a caution".

    Team Official Second Caution

The only reason I can think of is to shorten the process in a tense and confronting situation. But the same would apply for a player, and consistency is key. It would just cause confusion.

    Team Official Second Caution

Many things in law are not spelt out directly but easily inferred. Law 5: The referee: has the power to show yellow or red cards... Law 5: The referee takes action against team officials who fail to act in a responsible manner and warns or shows a yellow card for a caution or a red card... Law...

    Team Official Second Caution

I know @JamesL doesn't post a simple question unless there is a catch. But for me, a combination of Law 5 and Law 12 make this simple, if not general expectations. Edit: for completeness there should be an option to show the second yellow without a red but ask them to leave.

Can anyone tell me if there is any other place on earth except on a football pitch, when a person is about to fall, their hands go up in the air instead of down towards the ground to break their fall?

    Players taking a drinks break

I have been in a similar situation before. It's not a technical mistake but a game management mistake. The team with free kick took advantage of it and went on a promising attack. That's when I realized what happened and stopped the game immediately. The attacking team moaned a bit but bought my...

I made a mistake by disallowing a penalty and I have reported my error to my County FA today

Hi Graham. Kudos for recognizing your error and more so for admitting to it. You have done the right thing for reporting it. Also from my view point a formal apology to the teams is appropriate but some may disagree. Though my recommendation is to tone down the wording of the apology letter...
