Football could learn a lot from Rugby about how to deal with frustration.
I've only used the 10m penalty advance once. Player 2 metres out from the line infringes and i blow for a penalty. I then hear"ah f**k'in 'ell sir" from the offending player. Quick peep on the whistle and a brisk jog...
Rugby has no problem with it but dissent is less of an issue. You can move a penalty forwards 10metres if a player shows dissent.
My biggest concern is that the coaches won't help especially when it comes to time. Everbody has a smart phone with a timer but none of them ever think to keep a tab...
Well you found lots of other answers but the one i had in mind was Leyton Orient. They lost to...
Scunthorpe at Old Wembley
Blackpool at Millenium
Rotherham at New Wembley
I've been thinking about this a bit lately with a growing in interest in psychology and sport when i compare the two sports i referee, namely football and rugby.
Referees in each sport are treated very differently and this is generally recognised to be down to the ethos of the sports. However...
Anyone seen these stories? Have to wait for more serious news source other than the sun or daily whail but certainly a microcosm of the issues nationwide.
Player needs a lengthy ban eg rest of the season. Owen Coyle should be forced to wear a "i live donald trump and his fake news" t shirt. How can he claim to have a better view from his technical area than the officials. Maybe a dunce hat.
If they are not moving with play i go over at a stoppage and ask if everything is ok and remind them of my instruction to follow the defence as it makes them look credible to the opposition and to me. If that fails then i start running harder to get in line and ignore them.
Currently in Umbros! £22 from Asda! I need the widest boots and most online stuff I've found says they are the widest. Have Adidas world cups but v narrow and don't use them anymore.
Hehe, now doing Rugby Union i get 45p a mile up to a maximum of £30 matchday expenses claim. Anymore than that i have to claim through the appointment system.
Not much difference really other than the number of players and time. Only things to remember are:
- halfway retreat rule for goalkicks -stand on halfway and call the players back.
- throw ins - they can look horrendous particularly when they are trying to go long. Just get it taken again and...
Regarding the comms you see at rugby @DB , that will not be owned by the referee but more likely by the regional rugby referees society who have them to use for assessment and observation. The ref team will be linked and the assessor will be able to listen in.
This stuff is still going on in sport. I've been on both football and rugby safeguarding training and heard stories from recent events of coaches in high performance academies and premiership academies of coaches who get compliance from players through the threat of losing their dream if they...
