What do you need to consider at attacking free kicks?
- Stop play. Indicate free kick (and indirect if applicable)
- Indicate "on the whistle"
- Injured player checked (if applicable) and caution/dismissal (if applicable)
- Correct location
- Achieve 9.15 metres while keeping an eye on players in the dropping zone
- Once ball and wall are sorted, take a position where you can see the goalkeeper, the wall, your helpful club assistant referee, and the throng of players in and around the goal area
- Whistle
For goal kicks, find out early whether they play short or long, and position accordingly. If long, side-on view of the dropping zone, adjust for angle when ball in the air
Hope it goes well
