However, hopefully this will serve as a lesson to the other thugs who think it is ok to carry out these actions on a field of sport.

Finally! One of the more frustrating things about football is the fact they seem to be in a law of their own. Although still considered a criminal offence, nothing is ever done about it

I may stand to be corrected, but it might be the standard of the referee's report and witness statements that prevent further action being taken in the criminal system. The CPA are not going to pursue cases they don't have a reasonable case of winning.

I know the case I was involved in many many moons ago wasn't pursued because my description of events was not detailed or accurate enough. Good enough for the FA to ban the chap for 5 years but not for the Police to get involved.

It is incumbent on us to get this aspect correct, a practice I believe is hindered by the wholegame system. It is almost too instant, but that could just be my advancing years...
