Junior/Youth So what is the right age to give Reds?

I think my hesitancy would be on the first caution more than the second. Even elite U13, foul recognition is really challenging. The line between reckless and sloppy/floppy is broad and gray. At that age if I have any question at all I try not to show the YC for this reason. I don’t want to get...

    Lack of enjoyment

Don’t make a decision on short or long term leave until at least tomorrow. If every day was enjoyable they wouldn’t have to pay you.

    Need some help asap

The urgent “ASAP” of the question gave me the mental picture of an AR hitting a question on Refchat while deciding whether or not to raise his flag mid-match.

    Help with this one please

Think the context matters too. If he’d already brought up old news at the beginning of the match, “you’re awful” probably a tick higher than if you’d never seen him. You’re right: probably just yellow next time. But it’s also on him for earning a reputation with an official, reminding said...

Hints and Tips to Refereeing The Same Team

I know it’s difficult but I’d try not to draw too firm a conclusion after one game. Could have just been one of those days for everyone. On the occasion that you start to spot a pattern, I like to go head-on. “Hey, we’ve worked together before. This isn’t how we’re going to work together from...

    Refsix Pro

Plus is enough for me. The heat maps are cool but not worth it for me. There are enough timer options with plus to do what I need. And I use it with a Garmin and they have some strange bugs they can’t figure out with syncing that negate all the pro benefits.

First OA Middle - Youth Ref

Project confidence. Walk tall, eye contact. If they mention your age be prepared with a confident line that shows you’re not worried about it. “No worries mate, I’ll try not to run circles around you.” Strong whistle to start and have fun. I wouldn’t use a card to stamp authority unless it’s a...

To say or not to say...

Absolutely wouldn’t. Carry yourself with confidence, professionalism, and a knowledge of the game. Be as good as you can possibly be for them and expect them to do the same. You don’t care how long they’ve coached; doesn’t matter. Shouldn’t matter to them how many games you’ve done. Plan to do...

    Hinckley Vs Aylestone Park

I’d have an easier time going yellow, red, red than red, red, yellow. The first one was reckless but at least it was a play on the ball. The third is after the play, from a distance, looking to fight. Easy VC for me. If you don’t send him for that players are going to keep escalating until it...

LAw question non deliberate Hand ball

Pretty sure this is an exact scenario in IFAB sister’s “what if.” C

    When does run up end?

I understand the letter of the law on feinting at a penalty kick. Permissable until the run up is complete. My question: is there a clearly defined moment that completes the run-up? Watched several PKs in the Europa and the Americas that seemed awfully close. Player runs up at one speed, plants...

    Mex v Ecu

Law doesn’t specify from where the ball has to come, correct? His arm was extended from his body when the ball made contact with it. That’s an offense. It is an offence if a player: touches the ball with their hand/arm when it has made their body unnaturally bigger. A player is considered to...

    Mex v Ecu

Two big calls in the box during stoppage time of Mexico v. Ecuador. A potential handball offense wasn’t called, no VAR. Two minutes later a PK was called for a tackle. VAR wiped it away quickly. Why no VAR for the handball? It looked obvious both replays we were given at home. At least worth...

    Recommended Smart Watches

Using REFSIX. I just checked on my phone. You’ll need at least the plus version of the REFSIX app ($1.99/month) but it works that way on my garmin forerunner music 245. You configure how you want the timer(s) to work in the app.

    Recommended Smart Watches

If I understand what you’re asking, my garmin forerunner will do that. You can start or stop time with one button and end the half with a different one. I don’t have it near me now but I think there’s also a way to set it up with a continuous count that doesn’t stop counting when I stop time.
