goalkeeper sent off for handball - dogso?

Why did the GK deliberately handle the ball, to Deny the opposition an Obvious Goal Scoring Opportunity? Professional refereeing must be the only occupation, sent out to work, told to make decisions, scrutinised unfairly by a biased social media audience, then final piece not backed by your...

goalkeeper sent off for handball - dogso?

Just seems we don't ever wish to support referees, any reason to criticise, undermine is the preferred option. It's not wrong in law, the power /pace of the header & the referee's view of its trajectory, should be enough to back the referee.

    WHM v LIV

As an ex-grass roots GK, I was intrigued by Demot Gallagher's opinion, kept repeating AT's mistake/mess but my view is the GK has made the bigger mistake. Assumed he has been given a freekick, hasn't heard a whistle to stop the game, has thrown the ball towards a Liverpool attacker, if you...

    Aberdeen v Motherwell SFP

Very similar to Nani red card, which split opinion.

    Law Changes from July 2024

This was a discarded damaged shin pad which amused me, size compared to a £2 coin. Currently Academy players believe these give them adequate protection?

    Everton - Forest

With the pre-match work done by referees on team formations, set plays etc a professional organisation should have avoided putting a referee in the firing line at the end of the season. (Don't appoint him, Forest clearly picked this up pre-match). The start & mid season appointing referees has...

    Everton - Forest

I agree about retired officals not always best suited for VAR. I would add the noise in the VAR room must make it incredibly difficult to focus as VAR. All the input from AVAR, 4O, isn't necessary, as VAR I would want quiet time to concentrate on what I am looking at on a TV screen. The...

    Lille vs Villa

The law was changed to prevent GK unfairly distracting or delaying the penalty taker, however the penalty taker was Ollie Watkins. His actions were to ask for a replacement ball as the previous ball was kicked in to row Z.

    Lille vs Villa

I think Martinez was a litle unlucky, booked on reputation, he did no more than most goalkeepers or the scorers of some of the Lille penalty takers who gestured to the crowd. However, probably Karma after previous penalty shoot outs. Now they are not sure if he will be banned for the first...

    Banned official

Another viewpoint, at this level you are not given a a list of officials who will be in the technical area. So by implication this individual is a club official by being in the TA or dugout as he clearly has the approval of the manager. If he is a spectator, then the manager would not be...

    Wholegame reports for every game?

A benefit of RefSix if you are a user, records all your matches & discipline (if none) if you don't want to use an Excel spreadsheet. :)

    Mental health

I would add, there are many decisions on a football pitch which are given which are not right or wrong, just an opinion of the referee from their viewpoint. The referee is the independent arbitrator, often the only person in the ground capable of making a neutral decision. I’m not saying you...

    Birmingham v Cardiff Shirt issue

Thought this was interesting, at Championship level, player with a replacement shirt that looks more like a training shirt (his shirt was torn). You would think each player would have their own second shirt in case of inclement weather to change at half time...

    Arsenal v Bayern

I think referee was correct to wave away hand ball penalty award, given nobody wants this tie decided by a penalty call by the referee even if backed up by law. I had the same situation in a game of mine two weeks ago, my thought was coach the players, if they want to switch the side of the...

    WOL Vs WHU

Lineker even stated “it’s a rule bought in by referees at IFAB who have taken over our game”. Unless Im mistaken IFAB is not a referees body but an independent body made up of FA representatives, with contributions from the likes of Colina & Wenger.
