Being young and keen is fantastic, however there are some skills a referee needs that only experience can give you - man management being the main one. Many young referees have been pushed up the ladder far too quickly and they are lost to the game because the quit when they find themselves out...

I wonder what would have happened if the ref abandoned the game when it kicked off for the 2nd time?

If it is based on one person's word against the other how do they decide the probability?

This should have been one of the limited cases though. If nothing else it would have helped sell whichever decision they ended up with

    Modern pundits

How refreshing would it be to have a commentator or pundit fully conversant with Law

I still don't understand why CK didn't look at the monitor. He could then have made his own decisions. 1 on the goal and 2, if he disallowed the goal, on the penalty shout. VAR yet again making the ref appear incompetent

Would he be tackling like that these days though?

The ref makes a decision based on what his AR says that he saw in real time, I agree, but I am sure that in most cases you can tell that something has happened, even if you aren't sure what. Also, if you could view it yourself to double check if you have missed something, you would in many...

Communication that helps the situation? It will be a while before we see that whilst MR is in charge

    Manchester City v West Ham

I still don't understand how Oggy wasn't sent off. As it happened I said to those around me that it was a pen and RC because the game hadn't stopped. The only reason for VAR not getting involved, which is incorrect as far as I am aware is that they class playing an advantage as the game stopping...

Had one in a Contrib game. Ball was going out so manager kicked it to his fb to take the throw. Unfortunately he failed to let it cross the line first, up goes the flag for outside interference.

    Manchester City v West Ham

Those of us up the other end of the ground were totally confused with the drop ball, we had no idea that it was on the pitch when the BB picked it up. Nearly as bad as when VAR gets involved and the crowd are kept in the dark

I think more likely the former

VAR is supposed to be about Clear and Obvious errors. A ref saying no to something that is against current interpretation is a C&O error so should be called. However the VAR assistant HAS to suggest the ref reviews it on the monitor as it is a subjective decision and all subjective decisions...
