    LOTG 17/18

You guys need to pay for a hard copy? With the amount of money in the English game I thought the FA would stump up the cash for providing this. The SFA send us this every year for free. Cannot believe you need to pay for something which is a necessity for you to operate as a referee.

Fifa test and yoyo IR test - have you done it?

Generally you will referee at semi-professional (Junior football) and SPFL Development - U20's. You may also get AR appointments within the SPFL Championship, League 1 or League 2.

    You'll never believe this...

I thought I had seen it all during a game years ago when I played, before I took up refereeing. I remember the referee on that day cautioning a player for dissent whilst the ball was in play. However, that story above takes it to a new level.

    Dissent

Can be both, depending on the circumstances. A player can kick the ball away in frustration at a decision, which can constitute dissent; more often than not though it follows with a bit of verbal dissent. A player kicking the ball away for the tactical purpose of time wasting would obviously...

    Handball

For me the arm is the bicep area and below. However, it is much harder to determine a handball offence in this instance if the arm is outstretched, i.e. unnatural position. Even if it does hit the shoulder, 9 times out of 10, you will always think handball due to the position of the arm, and...

    Corner Kick Taken With Knee

Burnley v Stoke last night; Charlie Adam slipping whilst taking a corner, he then hits the ball with his knee, and handles the ball to put it back in the quadrant to retake. Officials signal for a defensive free kick, assuming ball is in play and then hand ball. Looks as though they had a bit...

    Spintso watch repairers

Yep, I've had issues with my start/stop button. It has sort of seized up and I need to press it really hard to get it to work. Little disappointed with this, as mines went after about 2 years of having it. For a £100+ watch it should be better.

    Goalkeepers Shirt Colour

Had to clash again yesterday with a keeper. We do confirm the colours days before the match, however the keeper colours are checked on the day. We have 3 colours in Scotland; black, blue and yellow. Seems to be that more often than not a team will deck out in black, and at least a keeper in...

    Video Analysis - Episode 4, 3rd December

I think the referee has seen a flag, and initially thought it was offside. As said previously, the only criticism is the assistant shouldn't have gestured the offence. However, the assistant showed excellent concentration and understanding of the laws in relation to SFP, where the tackle could...

    Goalkeepers Shirt Colour

Just a question regarding this; It is in the LOTG that the keepers jersey must be a different colour from other players and match officials. Is this enforced as much elsewhere? On the same day it is mentioned by an observer who was watching my game (both me and keeper wearing blue), I see...

    Leave field or not?

You have to think about why this was introduced in the first place. It was to deter players from deliberately time-wasting by feigning injury and receiving treatment on the pitch. Hence the reason why we've had the change this season for keeping players on the pitch after treatment, where...

    this lad does well ...

Better link here - http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/row-zed/watch-shakhtar-donetsk-vs-dynamo-7878813 Goal scored by Shakhtar and looks like the Shakhtar number 6's (guy who gets booted trying to run away) celebration went a bit too far, as the Kiev players make a dart to confront him. It's the...

    Damned if you do....

As stated, these guys don't know the laws the way we do. So are they really qualified to make such calls? I don't know how they follow the game, but I can't imagine them; one, being fit enough, and two, being in line with the 2nd last defender at all times. Add this to the fact they will not...

    Damned if you do....

CAR's given responsibility to indicate offside? What a recipe for disaster. Up in Scotland; matches with no NAR's, CAR's indicate ball in and out of play on the touchline only. Why give them offside when most of them do not know the various intricacies of the offside law. It's hard enough for...
