    Write-on Cards

There is a US company that makes them also. I had almost ordered from them last year but had the opportunity to physically see the ones in the post above and liked the matte finish on the side you write on. I did a quick look and for those in the UK right now, the company that I believe...

    Write-on Cards

Sure, I'll check later when they open up. I'm a few hours ahead of them as far as time zones go. In the mean time, I got a rough estimate from Canada Post as to how much it would cost to ship them to the UK. Canada Post is pretty insane when it comes to cost of shipping (prices range from...

    Write-on Cards

Very nice idea and I'm happy they are working well for you! I looked at your link and the cost and for me, I'd prefer to buy my own - just because I haven't lost any of my cards in the 20 years I've been refereeing, so it's not cost effective for me. If you do lose cards though, I can...

    Write-on Cards

Uses a regular pencil and an eraser. You can see in the picture, I opted for a clip on pencil.

    Write-on Cards

There is a Canadian shop in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada called Hey Ref. They are also an online shop www.heyref.ca I purchased the cards from there. I'm not sure if they deliver outside of Canada or not; but if interested, I could surely post a pair out to you. You can send me a message for...

    Whistles

Agreed! I keep it around as a spare when I have to referee a game and there are 3 fields basically side by side. That way, the players can distinguish my whistle from the other games going on in close proximity.

    Whistles

I find the Fox 40 is the cheapest while being very reliable in terms of construction and durability. I have the 40 classic as well as the pearl and prefer the classic. There are some other nice whistles, but also much more expensive than the Fox 40.

    Umbro Kits

I like my Adidas kit and when I am doing a solo game without ARs, I tend to want to use that as I find the shorts and socks more comfortable - I like the thicker socks and not the referee socks that are so thing like dress socks. I think that I will have to purchase another pair of shorts as...

    Write-on Cards

I've seen through the forums, many people talk about their accessories and the match pad and wallet that they use. Most people seem to use the classic wallet and paper pad from what I have seen. I wondered what people's thoughts were on cards that you can write on? I have a set that I use...

    Umbro Kits

Hi everyone, just wondered if Umbro kits are used frequently on your side of the pond (ref from Canada here). Umbro is the sponsor for Canada soccer (players and referees) so I've been using them more often since they are required when refereeing at higher level championships (provincials...

    Bookings

Slowly stalk the player like you are a predator and when you are close enough leap into the air and brandish the card with a shout and a flourish. That's the only way to do it! Joking aside, I find that it entirely depends on the atmosphere of the game and the severity of the offense. If it...

Opinions wanted - 20 cards in one game!

Yes, one team was predominantly French (all bilingual but first language being French) and the other team was from out of town but if I had to guess, I’d say half and half. There are tons of English Canadians like you’ve described above too. I think it was basically down to them being hormone...

Opinions wanted - 20 cards in one game!

It was a very entertaining game and was very enjoyable to referee up until one team decided to lose their cool. The dust has in fact settled and I’m doing my next game since that one tomorrow morning and am happy to get back into it. I did have a chance to speak with the ARs and one thought...

Opinions wanted - 20 cards in one game!

Sheffields Finest - I referee in New Brunswick, Canada and the referees are not awarded a club mark here. In fact, for this particular game, unfortunately there wasn’t even an assessor; which is what prompted me to join this forum and reach out to the referee community. A club mark is definitely...

Opinions wanted - 20 cards in one game!

Thanks Alex, your input is greatly appreciated. Perhaps I can add the bit regarding dissent into my pre-game chat with the captains for the coin toss about my expectations during the game. I'm glad to see that someone agrees with the cards. I felt bad about the first red card as this was a...
