City v Arse

Why did the ref and the female assistant do absolutely nothing when Aguero grabbed her?

Dissent at the very minimum as he was pissed about the throw. Big let down for females officials in sport just then.

Oh and walker High Boot? City very lucky

I'm not sure it can be a pen? Piadm sure but the restart is an idfk. Unless I'm mistaken in law

Would certainly have liked the ref to speak to aguero but would also liked to have seen some sort of engagement from the AR towards aguero

Yes, I make you right
However, for some unknown reason, the pro-refs seem to class these as DFK offenses and therefore show reluctance to give them in the PA

I am about as convinced that's a penalty as I am that action was needed against Aguero. Not even remotely.

Did SME seem upset or threatened? No. She moved his arm quickly in a way that said 'don't do that again' - Aguero is not an idiot, he'd have picked up on that. So what does Kavanagh running over with a card or a wagging finger achieve?

And could it have been an IFK? Probably. Few appeals and no contact so not a penalty or in VAR's remit.

Yeah you’re right, no contact so IDFK. Somebody could do with telling the pundits that though.

And frankly, even if it could have been a penalty lets play the clear and obvious game.

'Was that a penalty, ex-pros in the studio?'

'No.

'I've seen them given'

Nothing in the Aguero incident. I wouldn’t even want a ref to get involved with that if I was that AR in a Sunday league game.

how do we feel if the penalty was given under the attempts to (kick, trip, strike) bracket?

I'd be furious. Since there was no attempt to do any of those things.

It would be incredibly petty, but should David Luiz be wearing red sweatbands? Do they fall into the same requirement as under armour/leggings etc?

You'd be walking a fine line since referees in Spain and the US (probably more) wear whichever colour sweatbands they feel like!

Yeah I accept it would be a bit petty to actually tell him to take them off, in just wondering where that sits in terms of the LOTG

Direct if any contact with the opponent, indirect if not.
Correct for the first part as it is specifically stated in the LOTG. Not necessarily correct for the second part. Attempting to kick is DFK but does not require contact. If it is PIADAM and attempting to kick at the same time, then the more serious offence requires DFK.

If in the PA and you want to punish but you don't want to give a PK, then you can deem it to be PIADAM but not at an attempt to kick.

Do they? Do pro refs really have a policy of giving DFKs for IDFK offences? I'm not sure they do. If they do, no wonder non-pro refs get stick for applying the laws properly.

In any case, they don't give any FK for perhaps the most common PIADM, the overhead kick.

You are correct, of course, but I was replying specifically to a question about playing in a dangerous manner.
