Premier League and Offside

I hate that because of VAR assistants don't flag anymore for obvious offsides.
Zaha was a good 2 or 3 yards offside but he has to wait until he has missed his shot/chance for the flag to go up. In that time he could cause injury to himself or others and it too wasted a few seconds, potentially a minute by the time the ball has been retrieved and taken to where it should be taken.
Think it was the Man City game yesterday where a player was offside (close this time), play went on and about a 30 seconds later, he raises his flag and runs back to the half way line where the offside occurred.

Personally think assistants should flag when they feel it is offside and that VAR only comes into it if a goal is scored and the assistant made a mistake in not flagging. If he has made a mistake in flagging, oh well. Its the same as basic throw in or corner or goal kicks, let alone free kicks in the middle of the park.
And before anyone says its a factual thing so let it play out as can be brought back, corners, throw in etc are factual but are not covered by VAR so why should an offside, if incorrectly given, be any different? I can understand if it resulted in a goal (but it wouldn't be as the play has stopped before it can happen) or sending off but it doesn't.

Yeah it's proper sh*te

If it's close, sure, keep it down and let it play out but if everyone knows it's off, get your flag up and stop the game.

The city one yesterday was miles off, just a massive waste of everyone's time to let it play out.

The FA / PGMOL don't have any choice in this anymore. They have to strictly follow the FIFA and IFAB VAR protocol otherwise they risk being told they are not allowed to use it, and that means that assistants must delay the flag. It changed from this season as FIFA were very unhappy with the FA and PGMOL "going rogue" last season so laid down the law.

Yes, they should be able to spot obvious ones, but we've seen some bad offside decisions in the past that should have been obvious, so they can't risk the flag going up early even if it does seem obvious.

Part of the problem here is that the FA/PGMOL are taking it a step further than FIFA has been teaching. The teaching at those levels has been to delay the flag only if it is a close or uncertain offside situation.

Obvious stuff should be flagged when the offence occurs.

English assistants seem to be not flagging anything until the attacking move is over.

These arent tight calls, they're decisions I'd be getting right. Everyone in the ground and watching on t.v. knows it's off but we play it out anyway. Maddness

If they aren’t flagging clear OS then VAR in the PL is even more broken than I thought.

It’s pretty clear that the whole concept of delayed flags is to not to disrupt attacks on close calls where there might be a reversal.

They are flagging very obvious ones, but aren't for ones that are perhaps 2 or 3 metres offside. I've seen Champions League and Europa League games where assistants have kept their flag down for much more obvious decisions than this.

Yeah, I think the English AR's are struggling with where to draw the line more than other countries I've seen it used in.

Some very clear ones not being given until quite late (including one from the other day in the LIV WBA match where Liverpool managed to successfully defend the offside attack, were about to counter and then were made to come back for the OS) and some much closer ones being given because officials are used to doing so.

This is something else that has bugged me.
When a team regains possession and can start a promising attack but play is stopped for an offside that the assistant clearly knew he should have given a minute earlier.

Kasper in goal for Leicester was also really annoyed he had to make a save after a blatant offside was not flagged. He clutched his groin really pi**ed off.

And did you see Hendo against West Brom. A couple of times in the closing stages, when Liverpool really wanted the ball in play, there were blatant offsides not flagged wasting time. Already in the first half Hendo could be seen on camera shouting "get yer effing flag up".

It's also rubbish TV.

I don't get it. Like not using the monitor, is the EPL trying to sabotage VAR? Surely between the EPL and PGMOL they cannot keep f***ing it up this badly.

I'm paying way too much to watch these games get ruined by this VAR sh**e.
