The original one doesn't but the series 2 does. No idea on accuracy though!

    Unsure about my decisions

Well done for doing this post-match analysis. It'll really help you as a referee if you come out of every game with learning points about what you can improve. On 2), that is definitely dissent. You'll often hear players say things like 'I'm allowed an opinion ref' or 'I'm not a mute' (which I...

Open Age Hi new here and to refereeing

I'd echo the idea of verbal communication as well. Big shout of 'Blue ball!' will at least give you a second to remember which way they're going and signal the right way. Much better to give a slightly delayed correct signal than a rapid incorrect one that you have to put right. I also talk to...

    Player Name

I think it's also right to consider what the effect of your actions will be on your match control. At the risk of sticking my head in the lions mouth, I had one yesterday that I think is a good example of this. I had a player in my ear from early on, so had a quiet word, then brought the...

    Spurs v Gent

For the uninitiated, what's a KMI?

    VC or C1 (AA)

I could defend either a yellow or a red, but my natural inclination is that if it's a blindside hit with enough force to put the bloke on the deck then that's violent conduct.

New Ref- some fairly basic tips

The other thing I'd add is about how you approach refereeing. I really struggled when I started out as a referee because I felt the need to deal with every single objection to a decision, and acted too much like a disciplinarian. I later realised that so many of the bad tempered games were being...

New Ref- some fairly basic tips

I'd echo all of the above, especially the one about getting there early. I aim for 45 minutes before if I know the ground and the teams and an hour if I don't. That means you have plenty of time to do everything you need to do before the match and won't feel rushed. You'll feel much better once...

    keeping up

Yeah, I had a penalty at the weekend from a breakaway corner. It was a stone wall penalty, but when the players all went to appeal that I should/shouldn't give it they all turned back to the centre circle and then were surprised when I blew my whistle from edge of the penalty area.

Same here. Same approach for goal kicks.

    Age at promotion?

Seems Jonathan Moss didn't start taking refereeing seriously until 1999 as well, when he was also 29. There is hope yet!

    Age at promotion?

    Level 9 - Trainee Level 8 - Youth(U16, I think) Level 7 - Junior (You automatically become a 7 when you turn 16) Level 6 - County Level 5 - Senior County Level 4 - Supply League Ref/Contributory Assistant Level 3 - Contributory Ref/Panel assistant Level 2 - Panel (Though I think it's split...

    Age at promotion?

Thanks for the replies all, good to hear of people in similar spots to me. Getting back into it has sort of made me annoyed at myself for wasting time in my 20s when I could have been doing it but c'est la vie! Looking forward to getting started on the promotion trail!

Long time lurker, first time poster

I'm also an Evertonian, so I think that's a triple whammy.

Long time lurker, first time poster

It's almost certainly not called that, but that was just my shorthand for applying to go from level 7 to level 5 in one promotion cycle.

Long time lurker, first time poster

Hi all, Have been reading these threads for ages but now thought it was a good time to get invovled. I'm a level 7 ref in London and am applying for promotion this year on the fast track (straight to 5) scheme, though obviously if I just make it to 6 that'll be great! I'm also an Indianapolis...

    Age at promotion?

Hi all, first time poster here! I started refereeing when I was 16, then took a break when I went to uni and have just started back up this year at the age of 28 (29 today, in fact!). I've had really good feedback from teams that I've refereed this year which is what encouraged me to apply for...
