    Im a qualified ref, ref!

I must admit I had this not long ago when a U16 team manager took his players back to the changing rooms for the half time team talk... The other manager complained that it was only 10 mins (to be fair the home manger was back out within 6) but I tried to assure him it was 15. He might have been...

    Manager walking around the pitch

The only time I have ever enforced this was, ironically on a 4G pitch, during a semi-final where I was an AR. The etiquette of the cup was that the managers would stay in their own technical areas... One manager decided he would have a wander around so I told him (more than once) to return to...

    Offside - interfering - with a player's mind

Spot on, regardless of what a NAR or CAR does with his flag, you do not stop running until that whistle goes. I've learned my lesson a few times being too quick to blow my whistle: e.g. Player in offside position is running for the ball, I've blown my whistle and it turns out another player...

    Funny comeback remarks

To be honest with you I did once upset a player.... This player was a 40+ year old man by the way. He came on as a sub in the second half and spend the next 10 mins chewing my ear about everything. I was going to book him for his next quip but he told me "I was having a poor game" to which I...

    Praise when deserved?

Yeah when I went for promotion from 7-6 I lost sleep because the last couple of games I did before I sent me sheet off I had given two penalties in the last 5 mins of one game to the home side and dissalowed a last min goal from home team in the other one. This caused my marks from potentially...

    Funny comeback remarks

I have experienced this a few times where you really want to rub thier noses in it when they make a mistake but then your better judgment wins... I hate my better judgement sometimes. I tend to just go with, if there're loosing (and this works for gobby managers too): "if you spent less time...

    Junior/Youth Another example of why I don't trust CAR's....

@David Sutton the monkey story mainly, but the fact our mayor was once H'angus is catching on !

    Junior/Youth Another example of why I don't trust CAR's....

Yeah we all, in our barbaric state of mind, thought the monkey was a French spy so we hung it... I wouldn't even say it was an insult, the Hartlepool united mascot is a monkey called H'angus ! You'll never go anywhere in the world without meeting someone from Hartlepool or who knows of...

    Embarrassing moment pre kick off....

A couple of times I've had to go and ask if anyone has a coin I can do the toss with... I also once gave the flags to two members of the away team, mistaking one of the coaches for the away manager. The away came up to me 2 mins before k.o and asked why I wouldn't speak to him in a quite hurt...

Junior/Youth What decisions did you make this weekend that put a smile on your face?

A player once said "you're offit you ref" but in a funny non-aggressive tone... I still don't know if he meant it as a compliment or a insult

Junior/Youth What decisions did you make this weekend that put a smile on your face?

Stood right on the line next to the post and correctly called a corner (came last of defender, only just though) had been in anyother position I would have missed it. This lead to the away team equaliser. The home manager was going mad "no way was that a corner"... Cue defender "leave the ref...

    Junior/Youth Another example of why I don't trust CAR's....

Exactly, I'm not saying there're all bad, one or two I've give the flag to keep up with play and give very honest and correct throw-ins. But 1/30 do this, I would say In all honesty though the leagues I ref in, it's purely ins and outs and they don't expect any more responsibility.

    Changing room...have a laugh

In 7 years I've had about 3/4 changing rooms before games and two of those times were cup finals/semi finals

Junior/Youth Team choosing to field less players

I had a game the other week (9 v 9 - - U11s) which was similarly one sided and the LOOSING manager (loosing 5-0) took a player off because he wasn't working hard enough ! He just shouted ref sub... I thought it was strange considering he only had the bare 9 and took one of his kids off. Bizarre

Open Age What would you have done?

If no one has noticed and you're not a 100% sure anyway... I'd put the lottery on see if your lucky streak continues. Usually in that instance you'll have the defenders going mad for offside and the culprit swearing blind he didn't touch it. In this instance you've gave a decision and no one has...

    Junior/Youth Another example of why I don't trust CAR's....

I'm surprised in many of the comments I've seen that you allow the CARs to do offside. I know this is probably league rules so its not your faults but I just can't believe they would allow this ? Of course you're going to get fair people who will be honest. But offsides are hard to call at the...

    Im a qualified ref, ref!

There should be a separate report form for stupidity. It should be very colourful and you have to write it in crayon so when they get a copy they can understand it better. Oh and you have to leave space so they can draw a picture.

    Seriously questioning this refereeing lark

It's just "one of those games" we all have one or two a season. I agree with most of the comments on here: get back into it next week and see what happens, You'll forget all about it. Also I think the FA as a whole need to wise up and start punishing clubs and perhaps managers individually (?)...

Managers trying to get in your head before the game !

Yeah I mean don't get me wrong ive had chats with managers before games, but it's been about the weather or the football at the weekend e.c.t. But as soon as the conversation turns into cheap point scoring, mind games then they get "the talk". to be fair in the two times it's happened since I've...
