    Weird technical one with equipment

Hi There is a saying that the problem with common sense is that it is not common enough. The focus here has been on assessor marks. The facts are for whatever reason the shin pads were missed. I have to look twice at players now with these mini shin pads. I have had at times to ask players if...

Mandatory YC for taking FK/PK before the whistle?

Hi It is not a mandatory caution yet circumstances can merit a caution. If a player has clearly ignored the referee's "instruction" then he has either wilfully delayed the restart or dissented the decision which are cautions. If however the instructions were not clear or a player was not there...

    It'll never happen ...

Hi Only possible restart is a dropped ball. What the teams do at the DB is a matter for them. League when it gets report should impose a significant fine and probably dock the points it it can or order a replay. Certainly needs to be a strong sanction Learning point is that with no barriers...

    Red Card for Assistants?

Hi Well it does not show much empathy for the AR. I would expect some more concern about his health and whether he can or should continue.

    Red Card for Assistants?

I am not sure this is very funny. AR is obviously sick by throwing up on the sideline.

    MLS incident

Hi With NARs one of the challenges is everyone all being on the same page as the ref. In those debatable situation is the NAR sure that the Ref saw the incident and decided not to give. Nothing worse than the unwanted flag. Ball hits the hand, ref decides not deliberate and lo and behold AR who...

    RC in a friendly

Hi In the Man U v Salt Lake City game recently the the referee afforded United the opportunity to substitute Valencia after a RC challenge. Valencia only came on as a sub and whacked a n opponent who had hurt Mata some time earlier. United for reasons only they know declined the *offer* and as a...

    I dropped a big boll@ck today

Hi Had something similar a few seasons ago. GK fouls attacker outside penalty area on a one on one, ball falls nicely to a team mate who carries the ball on some 7/8 yards and on his weaker foot hits the side netting. I restarted with a goal kick and left it at that. Focus on attention was on...

    Deliberately parrying the ball

Hi Recall a good few seasons ago Wolfgang Stark penalised the AC Milan GK for a parry in a game v Celtic. Ball was miskicked, GK instead of using his foot, reached down and pushed the ball with his hand forward and then when challenged picked it up. iDFK awarded. I called one I had a few...

    Fouled player but exaggerated reaction.

Hi The only possibility here for a caution is if the players action was to seek the offender to be cautioned. It cannot be a caution for simulation on the foul part as the foul DID happen. At the highest level we see players roll around injured after a foul in the hope at the ref will caution...

    Fouled player but exaggerated reaction.

Hi It is not simulation which is an action which creates a wrong/false impression that something has occurred when it has not committed by a player to gain an unfair advantage Nor is it deception which is an action to mislead/trick the referee into giving an incorrect decision/disciplinary...

    Substitute OFFINABUS

Hi Yampy The answer to your question is that substitutes and substituted player can be sent off for violent conduct as per Law12. They can be sanctioned for all 7 sending off offences. As the misconduct has no effect on the game or the field of play the referee can wait until the next stoppage...

    Substitute OFFINABUS

Hi The IDFK takes places from where the offence takes place not the location of the referee. Dissent is at the location of the offender not the referee. Therein is the change in that in the past an IDFK was taken from either the location of the offence or the location of the ball when play was...

    Substitute OFFINABUS

Hi The reason I asked this is that the restart is not so clear from the LotG. In old money the restart was an IDFK from where the ball was when play was stopped whereas now it is an IDFK in front of the technical area. I do not think that moving the ball from where Play is for such a restart...

    Substitute OFFINABUS

During play inside the penalty area a substitutes shouts OFFINABUS at the referee from the technical area. As the ball is moved outside the PA the referee stops play to send off the substitute. What is the restart and from where? Answer to be supported by the current LotG

    .

Hi The law is there to encourage the GK to put the ball back into play where it can be challenged for without significant delay. If a ref chooses to ignore it as trifling then so be it. My experience is that once the opposition gets on the GKs case he normally gets on with releasing it. Without...

Player commits 2 offences before showing cards

Hi For me if he is listed as a substitute he gets treated as such with cards etc. Dissent from substitutes on the bench gets treated as a yellow card as does any red card offence. So having to be asked the question about returning as a player does not arise.

Hi For me it has to be exceptional for it to be called. If a GK has not heeded warnings and is abusing the situation then the IDFK is called. I have never had to do that as most GKs respond to the pressure from opponents etc to release the ball.

Player commits 2 offences before showing cards

Hi Player manager is walking for entering FOP + Dissent or USB Acting in an aggressive manner. I would go with the latter as it is easier to justify in the sending off report plus I would throw in the words for good measure.. Two yellows plus the red. Also what else went on by way of VC is not a...

Hi It is an IDFK from where the offence took place. Probably now the least called offence in the LotG. The last one I seen was USA v Canada Ladies in 2012 Olympics Semi final and the ref became public enemy no 1 in Canada for calling this offence as it is so rare. In the Europa League final I...
