    Slide Tackles in Youth Football

I very much like your reasoning here. Removes any doubt from my mind that sliding tackles are very much an important part of the game.

    Slide Tackles in Youth Football

No not dangerous in any way. Almost a slow motion challenge nowhere near the opposing player and as I said took the ball cleanly. No appeals or comments from any player, just the coach having a rush of blood!

    Slide Tackles in Youth Football

I completely agree. However I would consider banning slide tackles at 9v9, but once they start at 11 a side then that's big boy football IMO.

    Slide Tackles in Youth Football

Thanks guys. Pretty much echoing my own views. Can't see anything wrong with a slide tackle myself as long as it's not a foul challenge!!

    Slide Tackles in Youth Football

Had an incident at the weekend. U16 game Blue v White. Blue player telegraphs a slide tackle and the white player easily avoids any contact. Blue player cleanly puts the ball out of play for a throw just inside his own half. The coach is screaming at me that "someone is going to get hurt , these...

    Manager abuse for goal decision

I am truly shocked by this! It is absolutely disgraceful for an adult to hurl abuse at a 15 year old regardless of gender, and then for the team to join in makes me believe they should be thrown out of the league and the manager given a life ban. I hope you're ok now and continue with...

    Ars v Che

Most definitely a penalty. Would be nice if the FA sent Sky and BT a copy of the LOTG! Then pundits may start talking sense when it comes to Ref's decisions. As for Mr Wenger's comments. He should be given the strongest possible punishment. Only serves to encourage dissent at grassroots level IMO.

    New ref, hello!

Welcome Start with Laws 5 and 12. Watch as much football as you can. See if you agree/ disagree with the referees decisions and why. Most important is make your own decisions that are correct in Law. Have fun, and good luck!

    First game this Saturday

First of all, congratulations on completing your first game. Reads like a baptism of fire. Well done for completing the game under very intimidating circumstances. Your confidence will grow with experience. Give yourself time to develop your own style, and manage the game in a way that is...

Kompany - Leicester v Man City

I don't want to, and I'm certainly not going to criticise the Graham Scott here. But I'd like to understand his thinking. Was it possible for Stones as the only realistic covering defender to make a challenge on Vardy? That can be the only possible reason why Kompany wasn't shown a RC. A sending...

Open Age Unsure whether I was too harsh..

It all depends on how you want to manage the situation. There's a case for both a 2nd YC, and a straight RC! If you want to give the player the opportunity to appeal, it's a straight red. If you wish the player to have no 'get out' then a second YC. The most important thing is you dealt with it...

    "Good throw"

Other than Offside, I think to punish technical offences goes against the spirit of developing young players understanding of the laws. Using the throw in as a perfect example, it's always better to retake and encourage than give the throw to the opposition, in the case of a foul throw, or a...

    Advantage and offside

There will always be those who criticise bringing play back, especially at the level we officiate. However I thought it was a great decision. Well done mate!

    On the Whistle

I think that from whatever angle you come at this from, it's unsporting behaviour. So deserving of a YC. The player knows this and so is taking the risk that you will be lenient. So a second yellow converts to a red. No controversy whatsoever. Only strong refereeing. However, very easy to allow...

As it was a clear attempt to play the ball a penalty and a YC.

    GoalKick

I'm sure that both Ciley Myrus and Zarathustra are both correct. However I do not understand why and I can't find anything in the LOTG 17/18 to support it. For the record my gut feeling has always been IDFK. However I would like to know beyond doubt that this is the case. Thank you for your...

    GoalKick

Point taken. But that brings me back to my opening question. If a corner is not an advantage why not award the greater advantage of a goal? If I'm honest there are some very good points raised on both sides of the fence of this thread. Each to their own I say.

    GoalKick

Thank you Peter Grove. I thought I was losing my mind when most seemed to be of the understanding that DE was awarding an IDFK in the OP scenario. At least now I have confirmation that my understanding of a corner kick being the correct decision, was the right one!
