Week 2 - the return of the big mac

Seems like I have another fan in @Padfoot to join my fan club alongside Haywain! Welcome!

Week 2 - the return of the big mac

Whilst I agree its good to have a signal you should always consult the AR especially for a dismissal. How are you going to sell the decision if the player asks: 'What was that for?' Your only reply could be 'I dunno, its just what he told me to do'...credibility gone within an instant.

Week 2 - the return of the big mac

The signal is currently taught and encouraged by the Football Association at the pinnacle of English football. If it was wrong in law it would have been long gone by now!

    Advantage

Agree, for me....Advantage, wait 3 seconds or so, No advantage gained?....Bring it back! Of course if they scuff a shot wide or something in this time then play on

    BOOTS!

Being paid is very relevant. I agree to an extent about the shirts but I think with black teams know where they stand in knowing not to purchase a black strip. Allowing colours would allow teams to do this...then the inevitable scenario is.. REF: You can't wear black, it's all I've got....cant...

Week 2 - the return of the big mac

I have had lunch with the Training & Development Manager of the PGMOL and we talked about the signal. He was explaining that they were thinking of getting rid of it...getting 'rid of it' implies it is already in place and is therefore completely legitimate. The signal is a directive from the FA...

@Padfoot you are absolutely shot away!

    BOOTS!

In a role where we get paid the FA quite rightly shouldn't be providing us kit! They are more than entitled to set out criteria for attire if they so wish, anyway all black isn't so hard to follow really, is it?

    BOOTS!

They are fine....if you want to look like an idiot! The only regulations are... 11. Referees’ Uniforms (a) All Match Officials in Competitions under the jurisdiction of The Association and Affiliated Associations must wear uniforms comprising a plain shirt which shall be almost entirely black...

    champions league final

I'm glad, you will therefore know that something travelling at a greater speed (i.e Ronaldo) will have a greater momentum than your average player and will therefore require less contact to fall or be impeded. The force created will be just as large as a stronger challenge on a slower player... ;)

@hattersfan I'm guessing you havent started or revised your GCSE Physics module on momentum yet! Might be worth a visit!

Does anyone use a wrist lanyard?

Buying a whistle like this at any level is worse than a Level 8 deciding its the right time to invest in buzzers and comms. The only people that may even consider buying this whistle is those at the very top, but even there I'd say its a waste of money. Concentrate on ways you can improve your...

    For the older refs...

I have to say I think that is the most sensible post I've seen on here in a long time! Talking a lot of sense! Thanks very much for the kind words though svenny, maybe one day our paths will cross as I will be on the GCL or Western league next year as I am at university in Bristol.

    New kid on the block

Welcome, Any info on your past before giving up the whistle?

    Red Card

The aforementioned criticism was directed at his ability to write an enthralling piece of literature rather than his ability to referee. That is where I would say the key difference lies.

    what would you do?

I think this is where as assistants we can look at trying to assist rather than insist. So presumably you let it go and I would say you did the right thing. The only situation you might perhaps want to get involved is if the other team start to go mental at the decision, then you can in effect...

    For the older refs...

In all fairness though it shouldn't matter to someone such as yourself who is also very young. The problem comes when it can appear patronising to someone far older than the assessor!

World Cup Sweepstake - with a difference

Haha to be honest guys I'm not too bothered...I'm not even entering! I'm just doing anything I can to avoid revising genetics!!

World Cup Sweepstake - with a difference

If it were me simplify it, winner takes it all and exclude Howard's team!

World Cup Sweepstake - with a difference

So essentially someone in the sweepstake is robbed as their trio was second best but no winning are recieved, yet 3rd 4th and 5th are
