    Kicking the ball away

Good points, I agree with dissent by action. Had been bothering me what you'd put it down as. Cheers guys :)

    Kicking the ball away

Totally hypothetically here. If a player kicks the ball away in frustration but a ballboy, quick on the scene so his hero isn't booked, throws another ball on at the exact same time. Can the player still be booked for "delaying the restart of play"? Or would you recategorise the booking to "lack...

Tomorrow's game - odd situation advice needed

You're probably right to be fair, let's hope so and I can get on with refereeing normally. I'm not that naive enough to think it was 100% serious, but the player in question is known for being a bit of a pellet to referees and opposition players! If it's done once or twice it's a kid on thing...

Tomorrow's game - odd situation advice needed

This is what I was thinking, obviously hopefully let the humour and novelty wear off first of having a referee of your own age while still being in school. But if it gets aggressive and distracting I'd cite this as my reasoning behind a possible booking.

Always have this blaring in the changing room, winds up the teams something awful if it's a joined Portakabin effort though! Considering a cup to the wall to listen to the team talks, I'm a bit nosey

    What do you do?

Think it depends from referee to referee, some are grateful you've identified an offence and leave it up to you, others just take your information on board then make a decision. Deciding this approach has always been part of pre-match

Can honestly say I've never encountered pitches without at the very least some sort of Portacabin either playing or reffing

Girls u11 and u15 games this weekend

Very true haywain! And nah none of the U15s are from my school, don't know any of them (yet) thank goodness. If I do get their U17s I'll be sure to let the league know.

    Arm staying raised for IFK?

Suppose, I always get asked anyway, and you could just quickly say to the taker it's indirect just like you'd say "wait for the whistle"? I have a feeling it's only me that finds this a nuisance now

Your "go to" phrases that you always use

Usually the captains for my age groups are very unfamiliar with the role so at kick off it's just "Hi guys enjoy the game". I always found speaking to team captains a bit odd to be honest, half of them forget they actually are the captain and have no idea why you've called them over! A guilt...

    Arm staying raised for IFK?

Petty rant incoming. I know its mandatory to keep your arm raised until it touches another player/goes out and it's in the LOTG but why are us refs forced to keep our arm upright for such a ridiculous period of time? There are absolutely no obvious reasons (well, to me) why this is done? It's...

Girls u11 and u15 games this weekend

That's fine, being 16 I could feasibly be young enough to their fella!!

    Lightning

Agree with Brian, we had a freak number of incidents involving thunderstorms a few seasons back (when I wasn't even a glint in my mentor's eye) and they said don't bother with counting anything, just stay extra-focused on the game and you will notice if it is affecting the game so much as to...

1st abandoned fixture of my referee career

Have a skim through your league's handbook/charter if there is one and Ctrl-F for "pitch inspection" or "abandon". If something does come up you'll know what to do for next time. If not it's completely up to you as the referee and if the pitch is truly that bad then who cares what procedure you...

Girls u11 and u15 games this weekend

Envious... Two players of the U17s age group from the same club as the home team are actually in my year at school so they'll no doubt have been drip-feeding through all my moans from previous games. The age gap between myself and the players has the potential to be only about 7-8 months...

Girls u11 and u15 games this weekend

I've got an U15s girls game as well. For me there's actually more paperwork involved than lads: times of substitues, time of goals, who scored the goals...

Should you blow up for full time at a corner kick?

I'd fear for my safety if I blew while the ball was in the air from a corner. Your assessor has absolutely no right to say that, only you know the time you are adding on! I found players can hear my watch beeping and so it makes me look pretty bad if it starts beeping and I play on so I've found...

    Flip throws

Love when you identify a player who throws it perfectly each time so you can focus more on the more handy players jostling for position - although they are few and far between. From looking at games on TV and in the stand it needs a clampdown. Full-backs are that concerned on making a Seamus...
