    Flip throws

Real shame, a wasted talent. Might I add this was U14s so there's a fair number of foul throws every game without a forward flip so I was very impressed!

    Flip throws

Drabbest game I've ever refereed today, no cards, no goals, no pens, nothing. Sheet rain for the first time this season so far (been a very lucky boy till today I must admit) and had players begging me to blow up early. The cheek! However, there was one moment of absolute genius, incredulity...

    Common Lines

Gotta be "How long" for me! Never hear any of this "in the back" stuff?

Sure its been asked before, but cant find a thread

Completely forgot about CARs, they're banned by most leagues in Scotland! If you had one of course check with them.

Sure its been asked before, but cant find a thread

Until the day science gives me the ability to upgrade my eyes to the point where I can track the exact moment the ball crosses the goal line while simultaneously doing the same for the exact moment the challenge (which is moving in an opposite direction) is made then yes I would. As I'm sure...

Mandatory Cautions as per the lotg - a list

"Using deliberate trick to pass ball back to keeper to circumvent law" Can someone elaborate on this? It later says in the LotG that you're perfectly permitted to pass it back to the keeper with your head or knee or whatever: does this mean for example doing a few keepy-ups then kneeing it back?

Sure its been asked before, but cant find a thread

Surely if the ball is that far out of play then any defender that decides to take him out has come in so long after the shot was taken that he is in all probability guilty of violent conduct, albeit disguised as a challenge? Can't watch the ball position and the challenge at the same time so I'd...

    Penalty shoot out

Been told, by a referee that has had to listen to such instructions, that in big-crowd professional matches the police are often the ones that decide what end they are taken at.

    Dismissing a coach

We get told up in Scotland tell the coach to sit in his car or stand outside/other side of the pavilion/any convenient place, if he doesn't then threaten nice and loudly that the match will get abandoned if he refuses to shift.

    OK thanks a lot Brian.

    Dismissing a coach

Think I will send something of this nature, although I may be quizzed as to why it's only now I've made a report, days after I sent away team lines. Could it be of any benefit to say "I have decided to act upon advice from refereeing colleagues" to explain this or would the timing of it be...

    My best ever witty retort

Last month I was AR at a semi-pro ground. Cue usual people off their heads on drink. Being a nutter is already a pre-requisite to support these diddy teams so you can imagine them after the bevvy sinks in. Meathead of about 40 is right in my ear going "This is the problem with Scottish refs...

    Fundraising Ideas

How about instead of a "swear box" it's a "card box", every member putting in £2 for a yellow, £5 for a red? Although can think of a few from my R.A that would be bankrupt by the end!

    Dismissing a coach

Just not sure where I'd start as there were two similar looking coaches: identical black tracksuits, rather pale, in their 50's with grey hair and glasses. If you stood them side by side I could tell but I'm aware misconduct hearings don't happen a la The Usual Suspects. Team lines got sent away...

    Dismissing a coach

Last Saturday's U13s game was going well until midway through 2nd half the Reds coach took offence at me not seeing an elbow on the back of his attacker. Play carried on and inevitably Yellows scored. Reds keeper smacked his head off the post so on comes the coach to treat him however he seems...

Cheers! And well I was just thinking of myself because remember: us referees always like to make it all about ourselves!

Assume your association has the usual stuff like subscription fees and awards dinners. My RA (Glasgow) does an annual golf day which is very popular.

    No Assistants

In Scotland CARs are rare. I get on just fine, have always thought the concept would do more harm than good. Try to anticipate when a through ball is coming and scan the defensive line quickly. You will still, unbelievably, have coaches shouting offside. I suppose if you offer them a CAR role...
