    Pass back or not?

It is, but only if he shoots with his first touch. Most of the time if its uncontested the player will control the ball first. If he controls it, then shoots and it goes in, it's a goal.

    Eventful game back

Thanks @Mewcenary, it's something I always try and do after every game, regardless of how well (or badly :P) I feel it's gone. I usually find I can identify at least a couple of things that I could have done better, and if I can identify where my weaknesses are as a referee, that's half the battle.

    Pass back or not?

Keeper should know better, you were correct in awarding the IFK. 'Keeper it's coming to you' isn't the same as 'Keeper, you may handle the ball' anyway. The ball did come back to him, as promised by you. Good work :) Also, this ^. I always used to tell the keeper if he could pick the ball up...

    Referee's "Club Marks"

I decided very early on in my so far very short :) career to completely disregard club marks. As far as I'm concerned, I couldn't care less whether I'm marked 100 or 0. The reason being that although club marks do send a message to the league about the quality of the officials, I think allowing...

    Eventful game back

Ah ok, fair comment. I don't struggle with confidence - I'm a musician and a martial arts instructor, so I'm used to performing/talking etc in front of groups of people, and being in charge. Like I said, players do tend to try it on early in the game because I look young, but I've made a habit...

    Arsenal vs Chelsea

It was either that or he'd committed into the challenge, realised he was going to take him out and was hoping for a flag from the assistant. Looked to me like he'd made the (poor) decision to go for the challenge before he looks back

Wealdstone FC vs Gosport Borough (Vanarama NLS)

Fair shout, can't really argue with that. I guess that's the problem with anything like that occurring not in open play. Had the original foul not been committed, the ref would've been following play, and might have been in a better position to see it.

Wealdstone FC vs Gosport Borough (Vanarama NLS)

The attacker has to receive a caution for that. Had the goalkeeper not made contact with him, it'd have been about as obvious a 'delaying the restart' as it gets. The fact that the goalkeeper felt the need to take him out doesn't change that. My first reaction on the body check was yellow too...

    Eventful game back

My first attempt at 'quoting', so forgive me if this goes wrong! :p No worries - I understand it. I've made some mistakes in this game, I know that, but I'm on here because I want to avoid making those same mistakes again, and picking up tips from those of you who have been there and done it...

    Arsenal vs Chelsea

Difficult to tell, but it looks to me as though he did make contact. Either way, what on earth is Mertesacker doing sliding in like that?! Easy sell for Clattenberg, it's a red all day. Koscielny incident looked like a nailed on pen to me - it's a clear body check, no effort to play the ball.

    Eventful game back

Thanks Monotone Whistle - I'm a 7/6 promotion candidate currently in my second full year of refereeing. I definitely do have that outlook, and it's something that I've been slowly working myself away from. I always try to man manage games - I can certainly be a little bit lenient when it comes...

    Finally got around to it

Cheers Charlie! I do trelawny league, and occasionally line on the SWPL. I take it you're on the Duchy league, all the way up north in Par? :p

    Eventful game back

Thanks for all your comments - really appreciate it! I've definitely not described that last tackle very well. It was one of those where he leaves the ground momentarily, lands and slides, but in a manner that there is no way he was going to make contact with anything whilst he was in the air...

    Assistant "Assaulted" (?)

Ideally, I'd want to identify the culprits and have them thrown out. The stewards are facing the crowd so you'd expect them to know who'd done it. Failing that, I can't really see how you'd be able to continue that game fairly. The assistant's going to spend more time looking over his shoulder...

    Finally got around to it

Thanks! I read stuff on here all the time, so I felt it was probably about time I got stuck in. Not sure about any Tibetan finger holds, a good kick in the groin usually works though ;)

    Eventful game back

I'd not had a game for six weeks or so (bloody weather!), and true to form got an email Friday night saying that my Saturday game had been cancelled. Get a phone call Saturday morning 'are you still up for a game this afternoon?' I'm absolutely buzzing for it. It's a premier division game (the...

    Finally got around to it

Hi, I'm Matt. I've actually been a member on here for over a year, just never quite got round to doing this! Played football as a kid, lost interest in it when i was about 15. Got back into it a few years, played a season of Open Age but turned to refereeing as I was getting injured all the...

    Handball?

I wouldn't have said that he put his arm there in order to deliberately block the cross, but at the same time I wouldn't say that the arm needed to be there. I don't think it's natural for the arm to be straight up in the air whilst sliding. As for ball to hand/hand to ball, it was six of one...

    Handball?

Red v Yellow. Red are 2-0 up in a fairly heated game. I missed a few alleged 'late' tackles early on in the game, and so am making an effort to watch out for them. Midway through the 2nd half, yellow striker has a shot on target, whilst red defender is on the ground sliding towards him. I keep...
