What would you have done in this situation?

one the first one, I would have stopped play for an accidental head knock, re-start with a drop ball, no cautions same for second one. I think in the second one the referee only reacted with the card once he saw the blood

    Ched Evans

Given that he is on licence and on the sex offenders register, NO! ? You tell me any occupation where you would hire a convicted rapist? Irrespective of him "serving his time" Whilst it remains on his record as "live" under the Rehabilatation of Offenders Act, he should not be employed in an...

Best Ground you have refereed at or ran line?

In the last 4.5 years as a referee I have been lucky enough to referee at an SPL Ground (Kilmarnock) plus a few Scottish Junior (semi-pro) grounds, whats the best ground you've reffed at?

    Personal best

Had one last season, where I thought I had a good game, walking off the pitch and one of the parents, said that's "2 goals" you've cost us in the last 2 games. Mystified I walked on shaking my head and laughing to myself, especially since the scores had been 16-0 and 12-0

    Playful High-Jinx or Malicious Intent?

Quite easy to give a second yellow for unsporting behaviour as he is preventing you from carrying out your duties by attempting to trip you

    Biggest clanger you've dropped?

The ref that booked Gazza is a real gent, used to be my Association Manager when I was based in Ayrshire

Goal kick - directly out of the penalty area (backwards)

How can you give a corner if the ball wasn't in play, is the way I see it

Goal kick - directly out of the penalty area (backwards)

I would have kick retaken as ball hasn't entered field of play as it has gone out of play before leaving penalty area

    Ladies Abusive language

I usually ask players who are swearing to calm it down especially if there are parents or kids on the sidelines

    Match Fees

I did a lot of the youth games over the last 3 years for them, also did a schools competition called the Talbot Shield which Charlie Richmond organized. Beechwood has a great pitch now, brilliant for refereeing on

    Open Age Christian Leagues

I referee in the Strathclyde Churches league and the standard is ok, like any other amateur league some teams are better than others. Behaviour wise they are excellent to referee, the vast majority of the players are very sporting, lots of friendly banter, usually to a man they call you "Sir!"...

    Poor, poor game

When its a crappy one sided game, I use it kinda like a training exercise, to question my positioning and my view and to sharpen my anticipation skills

    Match Fees

I was supposed to run the line at Kilbirnie/Talbot last season but it clashed with an appointment I had already received so didn't do it. However I have refereed at Talbot's ground doing school and youth games as well as refereeing their over 35s team. I once refereed their under 16s and they...

    Double Red Card??

If the player spat at you, you should not only report it as misconduct but report it to the police as it is Assault. Similar thing happened to me, player got a 1 year ban and I got grief off my association secretary for not reporting the matter to the police.

    New Ref Questions

    1. Yes check equipment, jewellery, rings, ear rings and my pet hate bracelets 2. Sports Glasses are allowed, 3. Ask them to move back if you see them and if they do it persistently warn them, 4. As above 5. Try and do it half way line and on touch line. Easy way to do is to check boots of...

    Chris Foy - WHU-SWA

Solely from the vine footage, I wouldn't have sent keeper off, I would allow advantage and then book keeper at next break in play for challenge on the grounds of breaking up a promising attack. Don't feel he's last man as defender is in close vicinity, not an obvious goal scoring opportunity...

Your "go to" phrases that you always use

If they moan at me I usually try and say something witty to make em laugh. The other week I was doing a youth game and one of the player's shouted "OMG Ref!!! are you having a laugh did you not see that!!" My very vociferous reply to him was "Hashtag, Shut up and get on with it lol" the coaches...

    Liverpool Red

I didn't think it was a red, although he looked at player and then arm went out it looked to me if it was for his balance as he was moving at pace
