Law says "for the goalkeeper" so you need the goalkeeper present and they can play it or allow a team-mate to do so (as you say, coming in from 4 metres away)

Understand his approach, but the armband is a potential deterrent to abuse as any penalties/sanctions are at least doubled when the referee wears their Under-18 armband. If they don't wear it, the sanctions are not increased, even if the club know that the referee is under 18.
If you feel ready, accept it.
If not yet ready, what is the issue?
At the age of 16 (in England) you can do open age (I. e. Adult) matches.
As @DavidObs has said already, accepting a fixture should be the norm.
If you think you're not ready after refereeing 60 games, consider carefully what else...
I fully understand "transition", as do the folks in this group.
From current experience, however, it is not a word that Referee Developers would use with new referees, as most of the younger course members struggle to understand words like "rapport", "transition", and similar.

The diagonal is still shown in the positioning guidance in the good book, but the accompanying text makes it clear that it is a guide only, rather than a specific "must run here" line.

I suspect the OP is referring to a clip doing the rounds currently where the goalkeeper was penalised for a "back pass" and put the ball down. Quick thinking attacker played it backwards to a team-mate, who scored.
