    ref vs CAR

Referee sounds like a joke, and I hate to talk ill of another match official. No credibility from his position and if he started treating me that way as his CAR I’d refuse to continue. I’d be debating carrying on if I was a NAR in complete honesty. Nobody wants to run the line in that situation...

    Mark Noble!

Referee is very much stuck between a rock and a hard place. He could follow the laws of the game and incite a riot, or he could fail to apply the laws of the game and upset his superiors. I'd have dismissed Mr Noble and if any spectators acted in a way afterwards that caused me to fear for my...

    Promotion 18/19

I've applied for 5-4 again - hopefully I'll be able to get through the fitness test without getting an injury. Got my first of 10 assistant appointments tomorrow so hopefully it'll be a good year! All the best to everyone on the promotion scheme.

Bad habit - I need some help!

I don't remember you doing this while on the line for me! :P I'd say just crab down the touchline while showing the signal for a corner. That way by the time the players have had a look, they'll at least see you in a credible position!

    Too many bookings

I remember once I had a game with 7 yellows and 6 dismissals. Hardest game I've ever refereed but it was possibly the best performance I've ever put in. Not that the clubs saw it that way :(

    Intimidating slide

All involved are muppets. I wouldn't card for anything that's been mentioned if I'm honest. Yesterday had someone doing kickups during play while 6-0 up. If it wasn't for a preventative shout from me, the opposing teams midfielder would have got himself put in prison for assault!! Either way...

How often are ref courses run?

I think it's a couple of hours and like I say gives a real insight into what refereeing is all about and knowledge of what the course will entail.

How often are ref courses run?

Lukas does a good job in fairness. The get into refereeing session should inform you what the course will entail. It’s great information and it’ll really show you what it takes to be a referee and do the course.

How often are ref courses run?

If you jump into OA it’ll be a baptism of fire - it’ll take you a while to get into the swing of things and have your confidence at the level that you would like. I did literally 4 youth games first, making that massive step so soon was so good for my development, I wouldn’t have learned nearly...

How often are ref courses run?

Best way to get yourself known is to be a pain at first! :D

How often are ref courses run?

They do on the odd occasion have courses in Basildon - I remember once going down there to speak to the trainee referees. I'm based down the road in Rayleigh - if you're really keen it's a good idea to annoy James Lisher - I remember I did the same thing when I started!

    First game

Just don't do what I did and stop your watch every single time the ball goes out of play:facepalm::oops::wall:

    First game

Losing all confidence is part and parcel of being a new referee. The biggest tip I can give is pretend it hasn't gone and just seem confident with everything you do. You say you're not worried about the lads - at that age they're trying to act like the parents. Don't be afraid to set your...

    Danny Mills 5 Live

I agree that a certain Mr Kane should not have been in that position and AM should have brought it back. However Graham Poll on BT Sport saying he gained an advantage from it I think is utterly nonsensical. I like GP - I think he comes across well (usually) but in that instance it's best not...

    Phil Neville England Ladies Coach

@Ciley Myrus I think you make a good point there. However, I don't think fairness has anything to do with that in reality. I think the salary is about right in comparison. What we need to remember is that the money flowing in the mens game is astronomical in comparison with the womens game...

    50/50

Just keep play going, say something along the lines of 'both doing it, get on with it' - that works for me

    After the match

Blow the final whistle, have about 2 players shake your hand while you ignore the rest of the comments stating how bloody useless you are, and wait half an hour to be paid ;) In all seriousness, thank any assistants and as soon as you're paid get yourself home.. unless its a higher standard of...

    Change in venue

It may have been worth being proactive at about 8am this morning but you will never be at fault for this, enjoy your morning off! :D
