    naughty celebration

maybe also be a caution for delaying the restart, he's presumably got to put his shorts back on before the game can kick off again...

which of the premiership refs do you like/take note of

Here's where I watched it: http://www.movie2k.to/The-Referees-watch-movie-1018771.html couple of pop ups at when you go on the site but just close them down, nothing harmful for your computer, don't worry!

which of the premiership refs do you like/take note of

Have you watched the documentary "the referees", Dave? It follows the refs at euro 2008 around and shows what they were saying to each other on the pitch, how they dealt with bad games, what they were like at home with their families, etc. Howard Webb is one of the main refs they follow, I found...

    Feeling Disillusioned

I'd also recommend moving to adult level...I don't know if you're able to officiate in both adult and junior but we are in Devon and it means that you get a really wide perspective of how the game is played at different levels. But having said that, I would say that: 1. junior games are more...

New PGMO KIT (Nike) Info Inside

If the FA do what they did last year and reveal the kit at the FA Cup Final, all this speculation will be put to bed in about 3 hours!

    Drop ball re-start

Whilst the player has technically done nothing wrong, they will almost certainly regret their lack of sportsmanship when they hear the reaction of other players/supporters. It's not up to the referee to enforce good sporting behaviour, all we can do is encourage it. And whilst some other players...

    Muscle Cramp

I don't know how much of a warm up you do before games, but it's a good idea to maybe do a few laps of the pitch and stretch each of the muscle groups you'll be using during the game. Also something that I have realised is that if you don't stretch at half-time, then your legs start to "cool...

    Penalty or not 2

On the subject of waiting before you blow for a foul, watch Phil Dowd. He often waits a good 2 seconds, even after the most blatant foul before he calls play back for the free kick.

    Last middle tomorrow

This is my first season, so I don't know what the protocol is with pre-season friendlies....do the clubs contact you or do you have to let everyone know that you're available?

    Beckham PSG red card

Bizarrely looks worse in real time than in the slow motion, most tackles are the other way around

    Beckham PSG red card

Ah ok, I always thought that "strikes" refers to hitting someone with your hands. But having watched it back, Mick is right. There's no way he intended to do anything but stamp on him, red card

    Beckham PSG red card

Comes under the same sort of scope as the two-footed challenge. If there's contact, red card all day. If not, it gets a bit murky. Technically still a tackle which "endangers the safety of an opponent", so a red card according to LOTG...having said that I tend to caution for non-contact...

    Umbro to Nike kit change?

With your height I would probably suggest a large, I'm 6'2 and 12 stone, and the medium is a perfect fit for me. The only reason I didn't go for a large was the fact that it was a bit long and this meant that it bunched up around the edges when I tucked it into my shorts.

    Umbro to Nike kit change?

Ok, so new shirt has arrived (in a medium this time) and I love it! Would definitely recommend it, just make sure you get the right size...for those who have the Umbro respect kit, I think the Nike medium is somewhere between the Umbro medium and large. If you normally get a large then maybe a...

    Cautioning

I keep 3 yellows and 3 red on me: one of each in my notebook (right shorts pocket) which I will use for 90% of cautions, where I call the player over, take name and explain why they are being cautioned, another caution is a sending off, etc. I also keep a "quick fire" yellow in my left shorts...

Junior/Youth Player Swearing at Opposition Coaches

LoTG says any sort of offensive, insulting or abusive language (OFFINABUS) can be punished with a red card; when you choose to do this is pretty much entirely up to you. So swearing at a coach is technically a red card offence, although I personally would have a word with the player involved...

    Watches

I wore a countdown timer watch in my first game, but it was a bitterly cold day and I was wearing a short sleeved shirt...as I rubbed my hands to warm them up I heard a beep and my watch had restarted itself! Fortunately I had made a note of the kickoff time so I was able to solve the problem...
