    VAR Part 456

How about pick the best frame to check onside/offside; then, check the preceding frame and the succeeding frame to see if it shows the same decision (onside/offside). If there is any difference in onside/offside between the three frames, we are in the margin of error so stick with the on-field...

    VAR Part 456

Correct, you are either onside or offside but sometimes it's impossible to tell; there'll always be a small error depending on camera angles, frame rates, other players blocking cameras, ect... The Sterling case shows that sometimes it's too close to call. In cricket, they stick with the...

    Wet Spam v City

I think the offside line would be much easier to see on TV if they changed the law to only consider feet for offside rather than the player's whole body (except the arms) because feet are almost always on/near the ground, and that's where the offside line is drawn (on the ground).

    Wet Spam v City

In this hypothetical scenario: - If Sterling had encroached, the penalty would rightly be retaken. - If Sterling had not encroached but a teammate of his did encroach, the goal would be awarded despite the law requiring a retake. It is only fair to apply the law all of the time and for VAR to...

    Wet Spam v City

The law states the penalty must be retaken if both teams encroach but VAR is only used to penalise the defending team. Not fair.

Both teams encroached: Penalty missed -> Retake. Penalty scored -> Would NOT have been retaken. Fair?

    Fabregas Red Card VAR

Watching his eyes, he appears to be looking away at the point of contact - not easy to hit a moving target like that. I'm convinced it was accidental. And, I think he deserves the benefit of the doubt.

    Liv v Nor

Assistant put his flag up straight away for the very very tight offside call when he's not supposed to. Michael Oliver delayed his whistle just in case but it could've been awkward if the ball went in the net.

Also, no mention on what to do if the ball is rolled along the ground (not 'lifted' up) on to the head of a defender who is lying down and then picked up by the keeper?

@JamesL The IFAB is famous for its poor wording. I believe they just point to the 'spirit of the game' when people find loopholes.

    Premier League and VAR

Not sure if this is just poorly worded from the BBC but here is a quote from a recent BBC Sport article: For offsides, the Premier League is advising assistant referees to flag for clear incidents, but to keep their flag down for tight calls, knowing these will be corrected by VAR should it be...
