    'Technical' and 'Dangerous' reds

Yes. Because, as I've said, I know that that is the correct decision in law. 11 reds? 5 in one match [the most I've ever had] (2 x c*nts to me and an assistant, 1 x 2nd yellow for dissent, 1 x terrible tackle, 1 x punch in retaliation for said tackle) 2 in the abandoned match (one team decided...

    'Technical' and 'Dangerous' reds

Of course it's a cynical thing with the blog. it's a brand new blog, something I intend to continue, and it needs its first views from somewhere. It makes it no less true what I believe, and I think some of you are sort-of seeing were I'm coming from, even as you disagree. With yellows, it's...

    'Technical' and 'Dangerous' reds

I Basically this. In some matches, for whatever reason, and only if the offence is what I call 'technical,' then less stringent application is, IMHO, valid. I appreciate that, but I'd like to think that player's aren't (too) thick. They know that they got away with that because it was the...

    'Technical' and 'Dangerous' reds

First point: No, I'm not trolling. I'm being honest about a decision I made, in one specific situation, where I did not follow LOTG. I'm trying to foster healthy debate through an honest appreciation of how I, personally, change my refereeing style dependant on the level of football and other...

    'Technical' and 'Dangerous' reds

I sent someone off later in the same game, for DOGSO. The first instance there was enough of an excuse to push the boundary (DOGSO, but 40 yards out - not as clear to anyone but me, the defender and the striker)

    'Technical' and 'Dangerous' reds

I'm the first to admit it is wrong. Totally, completely. But it is what I do. But it has't failed me yet. One day it might. But I'm reasonably confidant in my own abilities at reading a game to know when to be lenient and when not.

    'Technical' and 'Dangerous' reds

And you are welcome to that opinion, and I am going to disagree. In my opinion, I am there to facilitate a match within my control, and to the enjoyment of myself and players. I may, by law, be wrong, and I may cause an issue for the next referee if they cannot control the match. I accept...

    'Technical' and 'Dangerous' reds

At some levels, with some players, yes. No. It's a different level, with different expectations.

    Straight Red

When I receive my team sheets before a match, I will ask the manager whether all the numbers are correct. Then I can red off a number, not a name, and look after. If team sheets aren't provided (a couple of leagues I've done they are not) then you have to call them over, even if you don't want to.

    'Technical' and 'Dangerous' reds

Again, a difference of opinion. I, personally, value match control above all. And I will happily stand up and be 'Last Week's Ref'. But I'm happy to agree to disagree, in this situation.

    'Technical' and 'Dangerous' reds

My argument here is that 'technical' reds are, at low level, match dependent. They shouldn't be, but it is. And I'd like to argue that more than half the referees I see, particularly those who referee at Supply level and above normally, are of a similar mindset.
  13. The Bstard

    'Technical' and 'Dangerous' reds

Not intended to be patronising, just saying that it's experience that has taught me this. As for a 'duty,' I'm of the opinion that my 'duty' is toward the player's enjoyment and to the rules combined: that;s my opinion, and you are welcome to disagree. I'm not sure of what 'last week's ref'...

    'Technical' and 'Dangerous' reds

Of course I am. As are you. As is everyone on here. No-one is infallible, especially at low-level, particularly with negative players. Read the blog post, and I agree.

    'Technical' and 'Dangerous' reds

I, respectfully, disagree. One of the major problems new level 7s that I watch - particularly on the younger end - is over-zealous application of Law. Hell, I was one of them once. Now, I'm a higher level, and when I come back for park football my application of law is slightly different - it...

    'Technical' and 'Dangerous' reds

I've been going for 8 years. I know my way around a football pitch. I also know my players, I've a fair nose for how a match is going to play out. I know when to be lenient and when to send someone off. If the player had been 1-on-1 after 85 minutes at 6-0 would you still send him off?
  17. The Bstard

    'Technical' and 'Dangerous' reds

Nope. Common sense >>> Law at park level IMHO. I've judged the match, I've judged the teams, I know that a red card for this is going to be less beneficial for my match control than a yellow. It's park football, there's nothing riding on it. A cup game? Earlier in the match? If the player was a...

    'Technical' and 'Dangerous' reds

Taken from my latest blog post, here. In a recent match between Green and Blue, I’ve had a lovely conversation before the game with Blue’s old-boy defender. We’ve had a laugh, and on the pitch he’s pretty much the same – ‘Get off the ref’s back, you’re not helping. He ain’t changing his mind...
