    Distinctive Whistles

I swear by Valkeens - or more specifically Valkeen knock-offs which are absolutely indistinguishable in both look, feel and tone. I originally bought one for £40 mostly because I have more money than sense and was curious as to how a whistle could possibly be worth that much. When I list it I...

Player refuses to leave FOP following treatment

In Law 3 it says that a player who has received attention on the pitch for an injury must leave the FOP. If they refuse, it's a caution for USB. If they still refuse, is it a second caution?

    New referee needing clarity/reassurance

I have a related question about mini soccer rules. In age groups where you are no longer allowed deliberately to head the ball, what happens if a player deliberately heads a ball which would otherwise have gone into his team's goal?

    Rice red card

The ball isn't on the exact blade of grass but it's easily within tolerance especially in that part of the pitch. The ball is moving, however, so if he'd made contact with the ball it would probably have delayed the restart more than Rice did. I think it's a poor refereeing decision because...

    Rice red card

The mistake was failing to caution Pedro for the same thing earlier in the game, in my opinion. I don't think he had a shocker, but I do think he was inconsistent.

    Rice red card

Did Pedro score the equaliser after his yellow? Edit: no, he didn't, the caution was at 90 + 6

    Rice red card

I think the referee could have any number or reasons to avoid giving the card - the ball was moving so he couldn't take the kick, the defender has rolled the ball so it's right in front of Rice, Rice was actually moving away - and I think that would have been a much less controversial decision...

    Rice red card

Got a link to the clip? I'd like to have another look. I was watching the game and it seemed very harsh, although probably technically correct. Delaying the restart is a mandatory yellow but we've all seen plenty of examples of them not given, including earlier in the same match. So it's...

    Tossing of the Coin

I would be interested to hear the explanation for this. I can see there might be cheating by waiting to see what your opponent does before revealing your choice, but other than that, how does rock, paper scissors not give you a 50% chance of winning?

    Tossing of the Coin

This is wrong. Unless you're deliberately trying to manipulate it, it's true that there are a lot of factors that determine the outcome, none of them affect the probability of the outcome. The physical characteristics of the coin might, but catching vs letting it fall do not. The reason why...

    It's also non-contact.

    Ars V Bou

Not a pen. Contact engineered by Havertz. I also thing the 'foul' on Raya that resulted in their goal being disallowed was really soft. (I'm an arsenal fan.) Coote missing the high foot on Saka in the first half was pretty poor too. I don't think the officials covered themselves in glory today.

    LOTG quiz and promotion modules

Those things need to be actioned by your RDO or whoever admins your promotion scheme (sometimes it's volunteers). BCFA is Birmingham? Maybe give Kieran a phone call?

Yes, Birmingham FA use Refsec. If you have a query related to that county by all means send me a PM rather than clutter this thread.

    A new beginning

More than half the county FAs use a system I write to do referee promotion admin. There is a very considerable difference between them in terms of how switched on the RDO is and how many observers/coaches they have available. Getting two coaches out to the same referee in three months (the...

    A new beginning

Once you've passed you'll be level 7. Professional referees are level 1. 7->6->5 can now be done in 6 months if you do a lot of games and have a co-operative RDO that gets you the observations you need (2 for each step). 5->4 takes a year, either a season or a calendar year. Each of the...
