It may sound easy, but just dust yourself down and go again. The very fact that you were appointed to a county final shows you are doing a good job. There are many occasions when you will get knock backs, but always react to them in a positive.

Has anyone ever actually been 'Reported?'

To be fair, it is only correct that clubs are able to report a referee. The problem is most clubs who threaten to report referees only do so because decisions go against them. I have been reported on a couple of occasions, and neither time did the case even get to a hearing, but I repeat it is...

    imitation of someone's accent

The yellow card might be right, but a lot depends on the game itself. If reckless tackles had been flying in and no action had been taken, then it would be a soft caution. Personally I think a stern word would suffice, but you were in charge and knew the temperature of the game.

    Referee attack

Thankfully assaults on referees are rare, but of course they should never happen. I am glad you are ok, and I would advise you to contact your county referee co-ordinator and ask him to give you another game asap. Which, given the circumstances, I am sure he will. And rest assured, the County...

Would you cry off a morning match cause you've got a "big one" in the afternoon

I am sure that most referees are physically fit enough to do two games in one day, but would your mental approach be correct? One game a day is plenty.

    Simulation Solutions?

But there is a responsibility, and it lies with the clubs. But of course that will not happen, so we as referees have to try to deal with it. And we can. Why would a referee not issue a red card for simulation if that was the punishment. I cautioned a player for simulation in a Sunday league...

Player refusing to give his name for caution

Yes they did. After the county FA had dealt with the player, the Hinckley and District Sunday League then charged the club with playing an unregistered player. And they received a fine as well. Their argument was that the player was registered, but he gave the referee the wrong name. The league...

Player refusing to give his name for caution

I agree about getting the captain involved. Though I had a similar situation last season. The player refused to give me his name, so I called the captain over and told him if the player did not give me his name, I would send him off. The player then gave me his name. Joe King was the name he...

But he has ADHD ref !

Personally I think you would have done better to just walk away. Whatever the score, and however well/badly any individual layer or behaved you did your job in the game and it is not wise to mention to players how many they lost by. We as referees need to be above that.

    Simulation Solutions?

I do not think that how a game is refereed affects how much simulation takes place. Watch any game in the football league and you will see players attempting to get decisions by cheating. Whether it be diving, or knowingly trying today on when the ball has gone out of play. As far as I am...

    Simulation Solutions?

This may be in the wrong section, but I do wonder what views we have on the following: Wolves v Watford. - Watford player rolls around as if shot after no contact from the Wolves player. Wolves player is sent off but rightly wins his appeal. Do you think the Watford player should be charged...

Pet hates about your own performance

I do not like it if the ball hits me. It may not always be my fault but it is annoying. I still do tend to react when a player says I give decisions to those who shout loudest. I should know better, but often I cannot help but make a comment back, which invites more discussion, and I end up...

    Michael Oliver.....

What an excellent game Michael Oliver had at Old Trafford last night. I think he got all the big decisions right, and was not afraid to take action against simulation. It was good to see an official not intimidated by Manchester United. Though with Sir Alex now retired, maybe it is not quite so...

    Today is a good day.

Congratulations. Now the hard work starts, but it will be worth it in the long run.

In Leicestershire there is a set fee irrespective of distance travelled.

    Poor referee

I would advise you to contact your assessor co-ordinator. The only time you should blow your whistle when awarding a goal is if it has been cleared despite the ball crossing the line.

    Corners and Free Kicks

The most important thing in a game of football is a goal being scored. So with only club assistants, I would want to be in a position to judge if the ball crosses the line. Should the ball be booted upfield, a quick sprint should put you back in a good position.

Having problems with the same team over and over

During the course of a season it is likely there will be one team you come across more than others. I always take the view that is a new game, and what has happened before is on the past. If the team wishes to bring up the past, then let them get on with it. You just carry on officiating as well...

    Poor referee

I have often wondered why some officials in other countries blow their whistle when a goal is scored. I would only do it if the ball had crossed the line and then been cleared by a defender. Other than that I see no need to use the whistle when a goal has been scored.

    Clean and ready to go......

I was at the LCFC academy the other week, and the referee got out a pair of boots that were caked in mud. He said he had not had chance to clean them since his last game. To me that was not good enough, it does not take long to clean even the dirtiest of boots. You only get one chance to make a...
