    Achilles Tendonitis

Had to reduce the amount I was playing on 4G as my achilles couldn't handle it and I genuinely thought they were going to snap. Couldn't find any treatment that worked (including wraps and supports), the only treatment that worked was rest and reducing the amount I was playing. I also suffered...

    "dropped points"

Must've been a slow Saturday in Ronnie's house As has already been pointed out, its a very accurate phrase for the top teams when they play the bottom sides, particularly if the dominate the game. It's also relevant during the season run in when the teams competing for the league and one...

OFFINABUS Red + IDFK in Box (Las Palmas v Mallorca)

Regardless of whether it is correct in law, this is absolutely not what VAR was brought in for and what a farcical series of events... I imagine the ref will be refereeing in the Spanish national league next week.

adult game on BUT under 16s off?

Shouldn't you be working and not reading RefChat 😜

    Appointments (official / unofficial)

I’d be interested to hear the thoughts of the forum, though I’ve worded this carefully as I know some colleagues from my CFA may have seen this interaction. A club sent out an email this week to "all league referees" asking if anyone was available to officiate their game next weekend. The email...

    GK interference in WSL

Something that Steven Taylor began doing for Newcastle. Seems a pretty easy sell for unsporting behaviour following a similar criteria as verbally distract someone.

Am I being held back unfairly?

I think we might be comparing apples and oranges here. Football has evolved significantly over the years, and with that, the role of the referee is under more scrutiny than ever before. Given this, I don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect a higher level of support. Newly qualified referees...

Am I being held back unfairly?

Wow! Wish my CFA offered a mentor at each of my qualifying games. After my course finished I was left to my own devices to find games. Felt a bit like "thanks for the course fee, you're on your own now"

    Shouting "mine" or "my ball"

The game I had today was a chorus of "leave it" and "mine" Interestingly I didn't have to stop the game for it. It feels like it is becoming the "accepted" language for youth players and they clearly all have amazing recognition of their teammates and opposition voices.

    C1 - Unspecified behaviour

What is the qualifying criteria for using C1 - UB? I ask because I used it for a player who achieved a mixture of unsporting behaviour, antagonising the opposition and kicking the ball away. UB seems the most appropriate as it didn't really tick AA or C4 in the context of the game.

    Taking a break

Sometimes it's really good to just take stock and treat yourself to the occasional weekend off! If you are a full time teacher and refereeing, you are effectively giving yourself one day's rest a week (and not even a day if you are doing Sat/Sun) and that isn't enough for a lot of occupations...

    Unlucky or card happy?

As others have said, need more detail on this and it probably falls into the YHTBT. (If you have the video, think it would be an interesting watch and you'd certainly get some great feedback from this forum - if you're willing to share) But I think any referee should be concerned if they have...

    Looking at Social Media

I used a club's VEO to prove (to myself) that I was in fact correct in a decision, was quite satisfying but didn't bother mentioning it to the club, probably would've infuriated the situation.

    Liverpool vs Aston villa

Absolute stonewall DOGSO for me! Red would've been mitigated by the goal but I am not sure how anyone can look at that and say that's not a foul. Bailey isn't making any attempt for the ball, he is the wrong side of Salah and just pushes him over. It's as much of a DOGSO as Saliba's was...

    Feral U18's

While I appreciate the suggestion and it’s certainly a good one, I feel that with 18-year-olds — particularly the ones I was officiating — it would have been a largely futile exercise. It would have gone in one ear and out the other. Unfortunately, I don’t believe the 18-year-olds I was dealing...

    Feral U18's

This is a really interesting point, one I hadn’t fully considered before, but it certainly resonates. Without generalising or tarring every team, player, and coach with the same brush, it's becoming increasingly clear why referees are leaving in droves and why many games are going ahead without...

    Feral U18's

Thanks James (as always!) Just on this bit... This was just a really poorly constructed sentence, he had just been subbed on (so was dismissed when on the field). I certainly slowed the game down (giving more niggly fouls and slowing down the game at throw ins). I don't think it helped that...

    Feral U18's

With Bonfire Night in full swing, I figured I’d add a bit more fuel to the fire of what turned out to be a pretty frustrating Sunday for many of us. After sleeping on it for a couple of days, I felt it was time to unload my thoughts rather than just venting a stream of frustration. I’d planned...

    Wolves vs City

Was waiting for thread... Not offside for me. The 'push/interference' is before the header and by the time the header is made he is out of the way of Sa and no way can be considered interfering, nor is Sa still 'recovering' from the contact. By the time the header is made, Silva is completely...

Comments on VEO - struggling to park them and move on

This wonderful forum has taught me the art of selective hearing. Many managers are going to abuse you for 90 minutes, not because of your performance, but because that's what they see on the tv or they need an outlet for their team's poor performance. I think it's pretty easy to be focused...
