    Recording cautions etc…

Just to add a bit extra to this as I reflect on my game this weekend. As mentioned, I ref the game with both a notebook and the Refsix app, and it was a good job I did as I had 2 yellow cards in the last 5 minutes of the game today, took note of the name in the notebook and issued the caution...

    Dissent/comments towards CARs

I was thinking this but didn't want to ask 🤣🤣🤣 Sounds completely the wrong way round. If someone is calling a NAR a cheat then it's cheerio! It they are calling a CAR a cheat after several questionable flags, I think I am managing it

So you get double the amount of abuse? 🤣

    DOGSO advantage

I think I am wrong actually (the more experienced will sweep up my mess 🤣) because the shot was impacted, the attacker lost an OGSO, it should be pulled back and a red card issued. Had the goal been scored, or the shot hadn't been impacted, then a yellow card is expected for UB.

    DOGSO advantage

Funnily enough we had a similar conversation come up last week and it was wonderfully clarified as such; Advantage If the referee plays the advantage for an offence for which a caution/sending-off would have been issued had play been stopped, this caution/sending-off must be issued when the...

    U8's non competitive

If we’re making distinctions, we shouldn’t lump UK football and US soccer together either—facetious comment aside. That said, I don’t disagree with your point, but your comment actually brings this discussion full circle to my original argument: U8 games don’t need a qualified referee. When a...

    Sept 27-28 Premier League discussion

And neither team good enough defensively to play high lines... but good for the neutral! I don't disagree with you, but I think you would be hard pushed for SPA/DOGSO in that circumstance, distance to goal was great enough and there were defenders who could've potentially covered the...

    Newcastle - City

This is why I love the subjectivity of refereeing Until I see a replay that outright confirms there was contact, I am still in the dive camp. Even if there is minimal contact, Gordon has gone looking for it and has scored 10s for simulation But absolutely right for VAR to not re-referee...

Claims to be a referee by manager

You call it as you see it, as this “qualified ref manager” should well know. I probably don’t need to say this, but after a quiet word, I think I’d be giving the manager the yellow card he so rightly has earnt. I think the key thing here to remember is manager’s should not be approaching you...

    Newcastle - City

Is Stuart Attwell feeling okay? Penalty confirmed within 30 seconds of the penalty being awarded! However, unlike Stuart, that is purely simulation for me by Gordon Seems bizarre they managed to confirm the penalty so quick when every replay seems to suggest simulation

    Dissent/comments towards CARs

If we were in the business of sending off players everytime they called a Lino a cheat during a Sunday Dog and Duck game You’d be left with no players I think in this situation, think context and impact on the game The likelihood of probability is… the CAR is cheating However, if the next...

    Recording cautions etc…

I think the best advice I got when completing the ref course is do 'everything by the book' (notebook). I think until you get to a level where you have reliable team sheets, your admin needs to be 100% accurate. This means first name and surname, in the event you have a James Smith, John...

    U8's non competitive

"No one benefits from a caution" – I have to disagree. You mention that subbing a player off is educational. I completely disagree. This approach, often seen in Academy football, misses the point. Being subbed off isn’t a real consequence, and most coaches wouldn’t hesitate to bring a player...

    U8's non competitive

Youth matches want referees but they don't want the game to be refereed as per the LOTG. I recently got (low level) abuse for booking a delightful young chap for PI (a text book totting up as far as I was concerned) . Both the coach and a parent (not the same person) confronted me, saying...

    Which course

Don't hold your breath, theres mixed experiences from those on this forum about "what happens" after the course, unfortunately for many you are left to your own devices and have to find 5 games to qualify. Your best bet is to get the ref secretary contacts for the leagues near you and say your...

    Man City v Arsenal

I don't think I have ever seen the 8 second, or its predecessor the 6 second rule, being enforced. But then again, this feels like the tip of the iceberg of unenforced rules, particularly in the professional game. The professional game has a serious issue with time wasting

    Rolling substitutions

I want to caveat this post by stating that I fully understand the proper procedure for managing substitutions: Halfway line Record the name and number of the player coming off Record the name, number, and check the kit of the player coming on I also realise that not following this process...

Should I include in dismissal report

Would it though? Really? Most league handbooks I have read usually say something along the lines of "if a referee doesn't turn up, both teams will agree on an official (usually from the home side), not having an official is not grounds for postoponement" In regards to the accusation of...

    Cardiff vs Leeds

I had to go back to good book because I am sure I remember a little red herring in the DOGSO laws, but happy to be led by the more experience. My understanding is that it can't be a red card for DOGSO because advantage was played and this seems to be supported by; If the referee plays...
