Player asking if his keeper can pick up the ball from a potential backpass

Oh I see! I had this wrong then. I could just envision if this happened in an adults game and I said yes, I'd expect the other team to start whinging that I'm assisting the other side

Player asking if his keeper can pick up the ball from a potential backpass

Youth football, U15s. Pretty sure I know the answer but wanted to double check. Ball is played through, defender tries to boot it seemingly straight up in the air but sort of kicks it with his shin, ball then bobbles over to his goalkeeper. I have no intention of even considering this as a...

Junior/Youth Keeper going down with 'private area' injury?

Apologies for not clarifying, the timeline was save is made, 3-4 seconds pass after which time keeper lies down, then maybe 10 seconds later the goal is scored.

Junior/Youth Keeper going down with 'private area' injury?

U14s league game Team A takes a shot from outside the box, not hugely powerful. Team B keeper makes an awkward looking save, initially it looks like he just saved it with his hands. He stays on his feet for 3-4 seconds, then lies down on the floor holding his face. There was no head injury at...

Open Age What should I bring to the FA Referee Course & how does payment work?

For the course, there should be guidance in your course confirmation email but if there isn't, I would just contact whoever is down as the course co-ordinator to double check. I presume practical exercises are still a part of it so boots are a safe bet to bring along, I would also bring along a...

    Refereeing payments

I fully agree that it should be automatic. Personally I'd really prefer there to be a system where each club just has my bank details to send afterwards without me ever asking, but I rarely have clubs pay me without me asking - there are maybe 2-3 in my area that have the money waiting in my...

    Refereeing payments

I personally disagree with anyone suggesting you shouldn't ask for it before the game. I don't believe this gives a bad impression at all, and asking to be paid after the game is an opportunity for all sorts of issues (being berated by whichever team is unhappy, being made to wait etc etc)...

    Question on putting cards through

Ah I didn't actually know this part about even unqualified ones having to do it, that answers everything. Thanks everyone.

    Question on putting cards through

Could it though, given that I was doing it as a random stand in provided by the home side, and my local FA'S rules state that registered refs signed on as players can't  officially ref/be assigned to any games involving teams from the same leagues as my club's teams? I've submitted them now...

    Question on putting cards through

You'd imagine so! The team with the abusive players knew there's a shortage, knew they didnt have one officially assigned, and knew I stepped in last minute, but the abuse was still there. I've agreed to ref my own team previously too, that one time is the only time I'll ever do it😬

    Question on putting cards through

Potentially a silly question but I'm just wondering everyone's thoughts. I started this season reffing my local men's league, after a few games decided to get back to playing and have since then been signed on as player and haven't reffed any games in that league. The appts secretary no longer...

Club assistant's behaviour after the game

Have to agree with rustyref on this one, even if the guy in question in my game was a Premier League ref I wouldn't want him flagging anything different to the other assistant, as the moment you miss a foul on his end he'll question why he can't flag for if. I think 2 months off over Christmas...

Club assistant's behaviour after the game

I agree fully and it's one of those things where thinking back I know what the better course of action would have been. I'll chalk it down to it being the first time since I started where an assistant has given me any trouble.

Club assistant's behaviour after the game

Yeah, we qualified at the same time. I've actually had a few chats with him since then when bumping into each other and distinctly remember him saying how much he gets annoyed by the dissent he gets...🙄 I also think it's a shame he's showing the youth players this kind of behaviour is seemingly...

Club assistant's behaviour after the game

U16s today, one of the club linesmen was a bit odd. He's a qualified referee in the same league but a parent of one of the players. During the game a couple times he tried flagging for fouls/handballs which I ignored and told him to stick to the basics I asked for before the game. Twice he...

    Open Age Jewellery Check

For me I either loiter near the changing rooms entrance and glance at them all as they come out, or do it while they're warming up and I'm checking the pitch/goals (I've noticed some players warm up without shin pads, I tend to just ask them and then again glance to see if they've got them right...

Is this a drop ball restart?

Ball is going towards the keeper and being chased by an attacker. Keeper catches the ball, attacker runs past very close to him 'brushing' against him shall we say, minimal contact but it's enough to set off a defender next to them both, resulting in both defender and attacker acting like idiots...

    Preparing for the match

If his league are struggling like mine is, that may well not be the case. I didn't get a mentor until my 5th game and it was very lucky he became available at late notice anyway. To the OP, just triple check you have all your equipment and kit the night before, and refresh yourself on any rules...

Missing which player committed the foul

In hindsight he was fine all game and possibly would have helped me out, I just assumed he'd tell me he saw no foul or that he'd become a target for the other team once I gave the yellow (they were all expecting a red based on the 'last man' and ignoring the fact the ball was played but that was...

Missing which player committed the foul

Thank you, yes reflecting on it I'll certainly do what I can to not be caught like that again. I won't lie that I bottled the card a little bit, I suppose given that someone committed the foul I could have just picked one but i genuinely had no idea. Luckily it didn't have a major impact on the...
