None of the offside players impeded goalkeeper or defenders.

    Offside or Goal?

From my position it was not obvious anyone was offside and I thought it was a good goal. The AR was new, his first match! He raised his flag, I might say a little hesitantly as the ball was slotted into the goal. Because of his hesitance, and being new, I thought I best go over and have a...

    Offside or Goal?

That was exactly what I did, and awarded the goal. Had all 3 been offside at the kick then I would have disallowed.

    Offside or Goal?

Direct free kick to the attack (White), 23 yards from goal. Wall demanded by kicker. Ceremonial wall for the defence (Blue). Referee whistles, kicker shoots past the wall with a not very strong shot which the goalkeeper should easily hold. However the keeper fumbles the ball and 3 attackers...

VAR - Mexico vs New Zealand

I was watching live, and my initial reaction (if I was refereeing), was Yellow for the pull back by Mexico player, Red for the two footed retaliation by NZ player, and 2 Reds (1M, 1NZ) for the head butts. Then to the VAR I would have said, "Now, what have you guys seen that I might have missed?"...

    VAR in Portugal-Mexico (Confederations Cup)

I like the VAR system, it works well. However, they need to tell everyone what is going on better. A notice on the big screens and a flash up on the TV, just saying something like video review under-way. That way everyone is aware what is happening. The VARs in the Chile game were not well...

France v England, Penalty 46th minute

Just read this by Keith Hackett!!!! He believes it was not a penalty! http://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2017/06/13/dele-alli-blunder-shows-video-assistant-referee-decision-process/

France v England, Penalty 46th minute

Clearly contact, and no argument with the decision. The contact appeared totally accidental though, and maybe in a friendly without VAR might not have brought any cards (Darius), or only yellow!!!!!

France v England, Penalty 46th minute

Ok, no problem with the penalty, one of those unintentional fouls. Red Card, as clearly not a genuine attempt to play or challenge for the ball. That said, thought it was a harsh red card.

    Deliberate pass to the goalkeeper?

I watched the Scottish Cup Final on BBC 2 weeks ago, and noticed that the cameras were on different sides for each match. BBC cameras were on the same side as the benches, ITV were opposite! While we are on the subject, I thought the free kick given which led to the second Scottish goal was a...

    Refereeing in France

Unfortunately referees do not get the tablet. Each club gets at least one (bigger clubs get a few) tablet(s), and it is the home team's responsibility to ensure the tablet is updated before each match, brought to the ground, and then uploaded/updated after the match. The tablet is given to the...

    Refereeing in France

Hi, I think it would be very difficult. First of all - how is your French? Secondly - every match in ALL of France now has a full match report only available on a tablet which you will have to be trained in the use of before you can referee any match. Thirdly - You will need a letter from the FA...

Indirect Free Kick Handled on Goal Line

Well finally, the definitive answer from the FFF (after higher consultation I think!). Indirect Free Kick to the attack, last defender (not the goalkeeper) handles the ball and stops it entering the goal. Penalty and Yellow Card.

VAR trial - France v Spain

As some of you know I live in France, and I watched the game on French TV live. First off, these two decisions were made quite quickly, and really had little or no effect in delaying the game. The decisions were made by the 'video referee' outside the stadium (in a specially equipped setting)...

    Sin Bins/Temporary Dismissals

I have not seen any increase. In fact, none this season, and last year only one sin bin!

    Sin Bins/Temporary Dismissals

It works very well, and I have to say that I have never made it to the so called '3rd caution-able offence', I think most players will have got the message in the sin bin!
  19. arbitre

    Sin Bins/Temporary Dismissals

I should add that under the French trial scheme, the sin bin offence is for any second caution-able offence The player is sin-binned and after 10 minutes can return to the field of play. Any subsequent caution-able offence by the same player is treated like a normal second caution, so red card...

Indirect Free Kick Handled on Goal Line

I have it from the horse's mouth, Federation Francaise de Football (FFF), who state that it is a penalty and RED card offence for DOGSO!!!!!!! The head of the my county referee's committee, and some of his colleagues disagree!!!!! He (and they) states penalty and YELLOW card for USB. However...
