Minimal contact of any kind seems to be enough for ex-player pundits to justify what is essentially simulation, yet elsewhere on the pitch the same pundits would be saying there wasn’t enough contact to warrant a foul.
Interesting. I have only ever seen the ref I mentioned earlier do the formal line up equipment check and team talk. We were advised on my course that the jewellery and equipment check could be done from a distance as the players were warming up (part of the reason we should arrive nice and early)
With regards to deflecting from one body part to the hand/arm no longer taken into consideration...
I find it strange that the law allows proximity to be a factor when an opponent plays the ball, yet proximity is not considered when the ball deflects off a player themselves. If a player cannot...
I’ve seen a local ref officiate a couple of times this season at U12s / U15s and all three times he took each team aside before KO for a ‘team talk’.
My son (playing for the U12s) said he checked each player’s boots and told them ‘no backchat’ and ‘a load of other stuff’ that he’s forgotten. 🙈...
I’ve just seen the Notts Forest vs Southampton game in a very similar way. Southampton keeper up for the corner, Forest defender clears from the corner and Michael Oliver immediately blows for time.
If it’s good enough for him…
Since qualifying, I have limited myself to 9v9 games as I have been slowly recovering from an injury. It has given me great experience with slightly less importance on fitness and mobility. I can definitely recommend it as a stepping stone into 11v11. I just told the local league secretaries...
Thanks everyone. I don’t feel quite as bad after a good night’s sleep. I have a lot of positives I can take from the game and I will learn from the other parts. Bring on the next one!
I think I was tuned in for 4mins 57 seconds of those final 5 minutes. Just those last 3 seconds between the clearance, me blowing the whistle, and the shot from the halfway line that I struggled with....
Just done my first 11v11 game (U15s) at very late notice as a local team had no ref turn up.
So quickly grabbed all my things and headed out.
Game went well despite my nerves. I managed to keep up with play and the game went by with very little drama until a late frustration-type challenge by...
My son has played from U8 up to (currently) U12 and I have only seen one card produced (sin bin with a minute left to play two weeks ago)
The ‘unwritten rule’ has always seemed to be that cards are used as a last resort until they go to 11v11 when cards become the norm.
I’m not saying it’s...
Just stand where the coaches or the spectators stand, or one of the other players. They always seem to know exactly where a potentially offside player is, no matter what angle they have of it.
Lad got clipped approaching the edge of the area in my U12s game yesterday... He loses the ball but it runs on to his teammate in the penalty area. I yell 'Advantage!' with both arms outstretched... He's shouting "Ref! That was a foul!" just as his teammate squares it to the centre-forward who...
