“Delay, delay, delay… VAR and AVAR are arguing over whether it’s a foul or not”

Especially when inconsistency is what they already argue about.

    Colin's got the answers!!

Yes with regards to point 3) I can never quite comprehend how fans think changing the offside rule to 'allow daylight' would make any difference because surely there will always be a point at which it becomes a marginal decision. Rather than 'is he onside or not?' it would just become 'is there...

    Colin's got the answers!!

The plan: 1) Set a THIRTY-SECOND time limit for decisions to be made 2) Stop using slow-motion replays that often make incidents look worse 3) Change the offside rule so there must be daylight between an attacking and defending player and introduce the semi-automated system 4) Allow refs...

    Cray Valley Vs Charlton

Presumably DOGSO if the referee realised it was outside the box?

    Newcastle Vs Arsenal

Do the arms need a forward motion to qualify as a push? To me it looks like Joelinton uses his bodyweight to facilitate the ‘push’ using his already locked arms, but obviously I’m not VAR nor the panel that reviews it’s decisions. I do agree though at my level I’m definitely giving that as a foul.

Would you not warn a young player that they were not allowed to do it? I can understand with older ages, but if it were something like preventing the GK from releasing the ball I would be warning them the first time.

    Newcastle Vs Arsenal

Ball out of play and offside are both good decisions and it’s good to hear the analysis, but I still fail to see how they are not recommending a trip to the monitor for the push. The C&O part of VAR is such a grey area.

    The one that got away.

In hindsight and with the correct information I think taking no action was the right thing to do in law, but I should have spoken to the player. Thanks for the other advice. 👍🏼

    The one that got away.

It was definitely a late shout and I honestly believe it had no impact on the FK. The mistake I made was that I believed that ‘attempts to distract’ was an offence and that was what I was giving. Were I to be in the exact same situation tomorrow I would be speaking to the player and advising...

Northumberland Football League - statement about continuing misconduct

For any real change it has to be top-down, but it won't be because it makes for good TV.

Northumberland Football League - statement about continuing misconduct

One of the worst offending clubs at youth level in one our local leagues are part of a National League setup.

    The one that got away.

It was closer to 7, there had been a couple of lengthy injuries that took at least 3/4 minutes and then the whole situation around the shout / caution / IDFK added onto that.

    The one that got away.

Due to the fact it was late in an already feisty game and the other team were chasing an equalizer, I am sure the player knew what he was doing, he just didn't time it well enough to have the effect he wanted. Obviously I thought the attempt was enough to caution which I now know is not the...

    The one that got away.

I think this was my problem. There were quite marginal challenges and pushes early on, but because both teams were doing it, I ended up letting them go, only giving the obvious ones whereas I should have seen this and started calling everything, no matter how marginal.

    The one that got away.

For some reason I thought that was the wording and that the 'attempt to distract' was the offence as opposed to actual distraction being required. At the time, my first instinct was that the shout came after the kick, ie that he didn't actually distract him as the ball was already in flight so...

    The one that got away.

As I replay it in my mind, the player struck the ball and then the shout came. It was stupid and not well timed by the defender and I don't think the shout put the player off as it was already on its way (going high over the bar) hence I immediately thought 'attempts to distract an opponent'...

    The one that got away.

It was as the ball was struck, so very hard to call. All I had in my mind was that it was then a YC and an IDFK, I didn't realise I could caution and then let them retake the original FK. I will remember that next time!

Sorry for the long post. It took some time to process... I've heard it said many times on here not to let the game get away from you as a referee.... Well I hate to say it, but I had one of those yesterday. U13s A-League clash, both teams wanting to finish in 4th place so for the they both had...
