    Bad day at the office!

Cheers for the advice so far guys, more reassuring to know I’m not the only one to have one of them games. In terms of being vocal, that wasn’t an issue for 70mins...i constantly explained my decisions (I was getting bored of it), problem was the resulting back chat was distracting me from the...

    Bad day at the office!

Appreciate that, mate. To be honest I didn’t want to speak to the player, I was just going to give him a ‘get on with it’ esq comment as you do whilst passing. I would’ve been happy pulling it back if taking him to one side was my intention. I honestly think that letting the quick free kick...

    Bad day at the office!

Well, I’ve just had my first ‘is this worth it’ game after 6 months or so officiating. OA league match where it seemed like every man and his dog was out to make my life as miserable as possible! So need to vent. Trying my best to figure out where it all went wrong really, first 10 mins there...

    Can we? Match incident

Had a similar scenario in a match on Sunday. Cautioned a player for a reckless tackle and got attitude when explaining why he was being cautioned. Another yellow for dissent but no red as it was a sin bin.

    First OA game today !

Back to youth today and it was a nightmare! Parents acting like kids, kids thinking they can do and say what they want. First sin-bin today though and it worked a treat.

    First OA game today !

Same here...first OA male game anyway. Enjoyed it more being able to communicate with the players on an adult level, feel a bit like a PE teacher at times with junior football. There’s a lot more ’feedback’ from players in regards to your decisions but nothing was OTT, or they would’ve been...

NEW RULE : Goal Kick , Question

Oh I agree. It’s a caution for delaying the restart of play- in that scenario. My point being, it’s exactly the same for GK’s as it is for FK’s.

NEW RULE : Goal Kick , Question

Not if he never had time to get the required distance. If team A take a quick FK (within a second), you can’t expect an opponent from team B be be 10 yards away. If it’s intercepted by someone 3 yards away, it’s the fault of team A. Same applies for the GK in that regard.

    Yellow card???

Because there’s no hiding place with VAR. it means an official has sat there, seen it and decided to ignore it. It’ll be punished on another day though. While there were inconsistencies pre-VAR, it’s fair to argue some things were missed. Now the only explanation is that they’ve been ignored...

    Vitesse match on now...

Get out of jail free card there.

    Vitesse match on now...

    Nope...just the one caution.

    Vitesse match on now...

Penalty- saved. Rebound put in. VAR rules encroachment, ref cautions attacker who encroached & subsequently scored. Ref orders re-take...goal! Is it just me or shouldn’t it have been a caution & IFK to defending team?

    double hand

He may have deemed the first HB as accidental, whether or not you agree with that. Yours- he obviously didn’t! My advice would be to play to the whistle. Edit: I’ve just read your post properly! It sounds as though he’s attempted to play advantage...given he’s booked the player for the first...

    Kicks from the penalty mark

No ****...I was under the impression the penalty was missed as soon as it bounced out after hitting the post! It hitting the keeper being another ‘phase’ as such. Every day’s a school day.

    VAR Part 456

My two cents...for what it’s worth! I think there needs to be some minor changes to law in order to straighten things out/make life easier for all involved, following VAR’s introduction into the PL. I’m all for offside=offside...I believe the MLS protocol is to let anything tight go with the...

    Dropped Ball

Ah brilliant. The next time I tell that story, the ball would’ve still been in the area when I blew up, meaning I correctly applied the law 😂😂👍🏻

    Dropped Ball

I just went with what seemed the least controversial option at the time. Even though it essentially robbed the attacking team possession of the ball in a promising area! Was considering asking the keeper to return it to the opposition but that’s not really for me to tell them that. I think I...

    Dropped Ball

Ok so regardless of who’s in possession, play being stopped for an injury, for example, would always result in the defending keeper being given the dropped ball?

    The future is bright

I’m not surprised. The course is a ‘tick in the box’ exercise with little guidance on how to referee a game of football. Following the course, I called my RDO who basically said “yeah you’re good to go now, good luck”! Besides the officials I’ve worked with either as an AR or in the middle...

    Dropped Ball

Had an incident a couple of weeks ago which left me in a bit of doubt. Sustained attack following a corner, attempted clearance hits attacking player in the head and she goes down, ball bounces to attacking player just outside the box, but I stop play for a head injury. I know play should...
