    Difficult Referees

To be fair it's the same the other way around - will take something to shift our perception of a manager we've had a problem with. All we can do is be professional and start with a clean slate and hope, but not expect, they do the same

    Difficult Referees

This is one I expect we can all empathise with and you have to be realistic that it will probably be more about damage limitation that solving the problem. My suggestion would be to think separately about 2 questions 1. Why are they 'difficult' and does that give you any possible approach ...

Jarod’s double yellow in the NLD?

He was spot on for me. Always going to come back for the reckless challenge. - can't let those go. Then a clear SPA. The fact there was a promising attack to stop for the second YC justifies the advantage. No other defensible outcome. Well done Jarod

Hints and Tips to Refereeing The Same Team

I am sure many of us have been there - you try and respond politely and before you know it you've got a pattern that it becomes harder and harder to break out of. I think the key is to spot it early and to react but not overreact. One thing you can try if it starts happening is to have a...

    A very strange decision

Wow ! That type of challenge is one of the few that everyone in and around football always agrees on. Short of knocking him out out with a straight right, it couldn't be more clear cut I don't know what the welsh is for 'so we are all allowed one of those are we ?", but imagine if the game went...

    Head injuries

Tricky One. I think textbook answer would go something like : 1. We stop play for a potentially serious injury, not for a head injury per se. 2. A potentially serious head injury would usually be either a cut or potential concussion 3. We obviously err on the safe side for potential...

    Premier League Matchweek 1 discussion

Whisper it quietly, but this is where VAR is good. Looks for all the world in real time like a penalty, but it clearly wasn't.

    MOAS appointment

It seems like there may be a relative shortage of referees at some levels in some parts of the country this year. At the same level as you, I have 8 appointments this month across middles and lines, whereas most of last season I was getting less than half of that. I expect it to change once...
  9. Q

    Kit clash

This doesn't matter. The requirement is that they are 'distinguishable', not that they have a different nominal label. So one bright fluorescent and the other a dark shade may both be called 'green' but be absolutely fine.
  10. Q

    Kit clash

I think to be fair we would need to know the full sequence of communication between clubs and officials prior to the day, at team sheet exchange and immediately prior to kick off, to really understand this one. At the very latest, I can't imagine them standing in the tunnel waiting to go onto...

    4th Official duties confirmed...

Absolutely. There will be a challenging transition at Step 2 where officiating teams will be going out in September potentially all using Comms for the first or near first time in anger. Bound to be some issues, but it will ultimately be worth it.
  12. Q

    4th Official duties confirmed...

Comms kits at Step 2 at the end of the month seems to be the latest. Kits being distributed to and looked after by each club, cutting down significantly the number required. Assuming this actually happens, training and transition in-season will be interesting to say the least. Big step...

    Referee world ranking

You'd give lots of points for getting easy decisions right in games where a lot happens and fewer points in excellently managed games where less happens .... .... but surely no-one would invent a system like that ?
  14. Q

    Manager caution

I respectfully disagree. I think what is intended is as written In Law 1 : A player who makes unauthorised marks on the field of play must be cautioned for unsporting behaviour. If the referee notices this being done during the match, the player is cautioned when the ball next goes out of...
  15. Q

    Manager caution

Fair enough. I wouldn't caution on A. as I described it either, but I would feel free to allow the goal and caution on A if the re-entry was more blatant (but didn't interfere). I am definitely allowing the goal and cautioning on B. I think you are taking 'provided no offence has been...

    MOAS appointment

Amongst all the doom and gloom we will inevitably get during the season to come from player, spectator, bench, spectator misbehaviour, observation issues and our own inevitable balls ups, this is a lovely reminder that we do this because we enjoy it, we love football and it gives us the...
  17. Q

    Manager caution

So in your interpretation A. Player leaves the field of play after being assessed by a physio on the field of play. One second before his team scores, 90 yards away from play and 30 yards from any other player, he puts a foot back on to the field of play. You are disallowing the goal ? or...
  18. Q

    Manager caution

No of course not, which illustrates the problem of trying to take a sentence written in English, or any other language, and apply a literal interpretation of every word in every circumstance. It doesn't work with the LOTG or anywhere else, which is also partly why lawyers can earn so much money...
  19. Q

    Manager caution

I don't agree with this interpretation. There are plenty of instances where an offence can be committed by the team scoring the goal and the caution is applied after the goal is scored e.g. player re-entering without permission and not impacting play, marks on the field of play. For me this...
  20. Q

    Manager caution

If the manager's offence is only bad enough for a YC for dissent, I can't think of any circumstance in which it would be advisable to stop play. Just issue the card at the next stoppage.
