Game tonight, a couple of firsts for me and some abuse!

I agree with everything, but don't bare it - that will just get you more abuse. 😉😁

    Yellow or red?

It's one of those isn't it?! I thought yellow on first look, but without giving things away the replay looks far worse.

To their credit, surprisingly little argument on this one. Mind you, on camera you can hear the bench shouting at both players to get back onside before the ball came in. I only really included this as I'm literally a fuzzy blob with a bright yellow flag (in the picture, before anyone says it!)

    Norwich v Leicester

Don't know if anyone saw the Bolton v Burton game yesterday, but the issue arose again. For me, I can see exactly why the R & AR came to the conclusion that they did, but Bolton and the pundits seemed to think they'd been robbed.... ;)

Junior/Youth New Ref... First match 9v9 advice

Agree with the above - the laws are one thing, but unless something really unusual happens you'll probably be all right with those. Your body language, tone of voice, use of the whistle and clarity of signals is quite another - and will vary depending on whether you're talking to the players or...

4 player fight not reported and they were replaced!

In my mind too. Unfortunately the culture of the game and the expectations that go with that don't always match with that view. There's been plenty of similar discussions about cautions in junior football too, for similar reasons.

    Abandoned Game

This is good advice I think. When we're nervous or anxious that can often come across - and sometimes we over compensate by, for example, using a more strident tone than necessary, or sounding too much like we're telling rather than asking (when asking would get better results). Treating...

    Mass brawl

I've got to say, especially given the world we still live in, I'm not accepting a note that someone has shoved up their nose!

4 player fight not reported and they were replaced!

I think this is the approach I like to take - and that's a good way of putting it. On a similar note, I have in the past suggested that benches substitute players that are otherwise getting a caution. Until one game when that caused almighty uproar and near refusal, that could have easily...

    Multiple 11 asides

I know what you mean - I typed my original response to that one about 3 times!

    Multiple 11 asides

Yeah, that's very unfortunate and I see the predicament. My thinking would be that in the long run you won't be getting any respect for doing all of that and it's bound to impact your effectiveness anyway.

    Multiple 11 asides

They are clearly taking the proverbial and, TBH, this sounds like a good reason why they don't have enough referees for all the games! Your physical/mental wellbeing is the most important thing here and personally I would be letting them know my limited availability (ie. one game/day, max) and...

Really good - and quite testing - quiz! Made me think! Very very minor typo in 14: c) The substituted player must happen enter the Field of Play at half way on the touchline and the substitution is complete when the substituted player leaves the Field of Play

4 player fight not reported and they were replaced!

I take your point, but the match also needs to be played within the laws for the benefit (longer- and shorter-term) of both teams. If there's no team sanction then - for some - there's little disincentive for violent behaviour which could potentially impact opposition players/teams for the rest...

    Junior/Youth Advice appreciated!

@dylanbailey4444 - it's excellent that you are trying to help and obviously take it very seriously. The best thing you can do is get yourself qualified as soon as is possible. None of us would say officiating is easy, but it will help if you are fully aware of the laws and have the backup of...

    release

For me it's what we mean by 'notable negative impact'. If it's a deliberate attempt to block the ball (before I have a chance to shout) I might even caution the first (unsporting behaviour). If it's hanging around and trying to influence, then I would be having a word to warn of the potential...
