Suppose it needs a harsh sentence as it's so rarely caught.
Remember it happen to one referee and they found out he hadn't submitted any disciplinary action for 10-years despite doing 3 or 4 games most weekends
They were responding with an outcome to my scenario where that didn't happen..
Suppose they could've thought I was asking if you can give a penalty after stopping play outside the penalty area 🤣
My follow-on question. Have to lead the horse to water to get a clear(er) answer from them
"Law 12 says if holding continues into the penalty area then the offence MUST be penalised with a penalty kick.
Unless you've whistled before they get in to the penalty area I don't see how the second...
He doesn't attempt to play the ball, he ducks under it but that's enough for obvious action similar to Robertson one.
If you're touch tight to the goalkeeper when your player heads it these should be offside whatever the subsequent action.
IFAB response
"Good morning
Thank you for your e mail and question.
The outcomes could be:
Penalise the ‘start’ of the offence = free kick and red card for DOGSO
Play advantage for start of the offence = penalty kick and caution (YC)*
Happens a lot. Alternatives probably clashed with the kits, and they can't make the home team change 'keeper change jf they don't want to afaik.
The obligatory prematch "sure you won't be next to each other during the game"
They brief him probably trying to show they aren't as strict.
The briefed view of the Brentford one as a non-deliberate handball where he moved his arm towards the ball is a particular favourite from this article.
AI says the success rates are similar at the professional level.
Anecdotally at grassroots those who mess about seem to miss more. There's obviously a perception bias as misses and non-misses for stutter run-ups will be more memorable than someone who side foots it in the corner
@RefereeX Be very precise, and use the term non-deliberate handball. PGMO incorrectly used the term accidental, and if they're doing this routinely it's maybe why they're confusing themselves with the law
Accidental handball is a term I'd only use for handballs given due to a goal being scored...
The hand was in an expected/natural position for me.
The twitter match centre did say it was given for non-deliberate handling. Caution was given so must've been a DOGSO downgrade..
Inspired by the Brentford thread
A holding offence starts outside the penalty area it would be DOGSO if play is stopped for a free kick, by the time they're inside the area the holding is continuing but it's no longer DOGSO.
Perhaps due to the hold delaying them sufficiently, or a heavy touch...
