    Orange Card?

It is up for discussion at IFAB apparantly, but I've yet to meet anyone who thinks it's a good idea! Would need an official to manage it during the game, which at top level would be 4th Official, at grassroots level would probably be a Granny walking her dog.

    West Ham vs. Swansea

Of our yellow card codes we have 'Y21- USB Feigning Injury' Rarely issued, but useful, and like I say, in the Carroll case, would have to be totally sure Flores was feigning it. We also have 'Y23 - Caution not previously specified' which can come in useful. Carroll's would be either 'R3-SFP...

    Boots

I have Kaiser 5's for most games. Nike Tiempos - with the hard sole and studs - for softer ground Nike Turfs (not sure of the model name) for really hard ground. These are actually grey and yellow, but as we wear yellow they are OK.

    Goal kicks

Yeah, could open a real can of wriggly things. I guess, presonally, as long is it is kicked from the ground and from the within the goal area it's OK>

    Goal kicks

Not sure you'd get away with that happening in a game, but a rolling ball has been queried and I've said 'doesn't matter on GK' which was accepted. Was just the wind blowing it and keeper got fed up trying to get it to stay still.

    West Ham vs. Swansea

No, I don't think they can retrospectively Caution. As for simulation - he is clearly pretending he got hit in the face. Contact or not, I thought there was a USB offence for feigning injury. We have one here, can be very useful at times.......

    West Ham vs. Swansea

Not sure why you can't do both - Carroll for 'Attempting to Strike' and FLores for Simulation?

    Spurs v Man City

When I saw it first time, I thought it was the trailing leg that caught Dzeko's heel. That was the foul - not the front leg that touched the ball. Careless tackle for me, however many times I see a replay.

New football book on park refereeing

Will have a look at getting it on my iPad. I've just got a couple of books to get through before the library starts fining me!

    David Gold....

I think the point about fighting for survival is fair enough. He does owe it to the fans and the club to do all he can to stay up, and losing Carroll for three games will pretty much relegate them I think, so I can't blame a Chairman for defending his club. Although, it could be a psychological...

    Goal kicks

I'm not too pedantic about it to be honest. The Laws say the ball has to be placed in the goal area, so as long as the kicker, or another defender places it there, if it rolls in the wind, or moves slightly as the player is kicking it then that's fine. Same with a corner, as long as the ball...

    Stoke vs Man Utd

Nope, under Law, Wellbeck was in an offside position, but not only did he NOT challenge for the ball, he came back onside for the next phase of play. 'Interfering with play' is quite well defined in the good book and the new wording hasn't made much of a difference the way I read it.

Open Age Instructions to Club linesmen

Unless I know them personally, there is no way I would take their word that they are 'qualified'. I have had a parent, who had been involved in their kids' football for ten years, react with surprise when i told him I had passed the Level 1 course. "What, you have to pass a test to be a...

    West Ham vs. Swansea

but he should have been though - I have no doubt he was intending to strike Flores. What Flores does after the 'strike' shouldn't come into it, when dealing with Carroll. My take is: Foul on Carroll - FK Red Card Carroll for attempting to strike opponent Possible yellow for Flores for...

    "Have a word Ref"

Agree with HullRef about the players. For me a 'quiet word' could be: See the tackle Blow the whistle "Awww come on Ref!" "That's as bad as I'm gonna see today please!" (everyone hears it) Sort the free kick out and get on with it. If he continues to moan, finger to my lips and get on with it...

    "Have a word Ref"

If i call a player over to talk to, then the other 21 players have to stop and wait for it to happen, so it means he is on a final warning and next time I have to talk to him it will be to ask his name. Otherwise, quiet words jogging along with them, or at breaks in play, or clear finger...

Open Age Instructions to Club linesmen

So, reading the posts above, do you get your CARs to go with their own left back for the whole game? ie, changing sides at half time? I've never done that with CARs, they stay on the same line throughout same as Neutrals, so both sides get the 'benefit' of their wisdom. Also, I do think that...

    When is a pitch waterlogged?

Basically, you need to ask 'Are the players going to be able to keep their footing?' - uncontrolled slips etc = pulls and muscle tears Also, if the ball doesn't run 'true', and pulls up short because of water, then challenges will be going in between players and the ball not being there. In...
