    Junior/Youth last minute 13-0 dogso

It's not just about climbing a ladder, it's evidencing your ability to manage situations and people. At 13-0, a DOGSO offence is not a KMI. Ultimately the negatives far outweigh the positives. Spirit of the game on this one.

    Junior/Youth last minute 13-0 dogso

When was the last time you saw the goalkeeper penalised for this offence in professional or non league football? I genuinely can't remember. I refereed my 400th game this week & I've never penalised a goalkeeper for this. But I'm proactive in managing the situation. Yes we are slaves to the law...

Then I would advise that you work on managing these situations using your voice and your personality. Be proactive. If you start penalising these offences so officiously at step 7 and above then you will have difficulties and it will be a barrier in your progression.

Are you wanting to progress up the promotion ladder Gabriel?

You spoil all my fun James 🤣

    Junior/Youth last minute 13-0 dogso

Sounds like you invoke the spirit of the game there (and you're right to do so).

    Junior/Youth last minute 13-0 dogso

Of course. But are you telling me that you apply law strictly to every situation?
  8. B

    Junior/Youth last minute 13-0 dogso

I stand corrected. Not that it matters.

Do you apply law to every situation?

10 reds in a kids league?

    Junior/Youth last minute 13-0 dogso

Referees will get grief for applying the law here and will get grief for not doing so (although in this scenario that is very unlikely). Don't worry about the grief, deal with it as you see fit. When refereeing a game, my last concern is whoever is refereeing these teams in their next game. I...

    Junior/Youth last minute 13-0 dogso

Then if the circumstances are more contentious, give a red card. The answer to your question is to use your judgement. Refereeing is as much about managing people as it is the LOTG. Don't be a robot, especially at the low level kids football. At 13-0, just explain to the other team manager that...

    The FA Refereeing Course

I found my own appointments/leagues etc. All the qualifying games on the course went to the kids who had made it clear that they were only there because its was the DoE award and it was better than camping in the woods. The course was just something I had to do before going out and learning the...

    The FA Refereeing Course

The course material may have been excellent, we just didn't hear half of it. But ultimately the course is a stage 1 process. It's the beginning. The real learning starts on the field of play, and the best way to speed up your learning is to be an AR ASAP & watch other games.

    Junior/Youth last minute 13-0 dogso

If next weeks ref has a DOGSO situation at 13-0 then I'd hope he wouldn't show a red card either. We're not robots. VC or SFP then match situation is irrelevant. 13-0 with 13 year old kids playing & a DOGSO situation......come on.

    The FA Refereeing Course

Spoke about this a few times on here but the course I did about 8 years ago was a complete waste of time. I found it frustrating and had to do the job of the chaps running the course a couple of times. Nothing to do with the subject matter, this was a case of 2 instructors who were too weak to...

    Junior/Youth last minute 13-0 dogso

At 13-0 in a kids game nobody wants a red for DOGSO, nobody. The fact that you showed the red card shows that you're not afraid to make unpopular decisions and should you choose to go up the ladder then that will serve you well. But perspective is important. 13-0, kids game.......keep the red...

New/ returning. Advice for Sheffield/ South Yorkshire

There's women's football & the u18/u21 leagues which are better areas to start if you're concerned about the Sunday Leagues. I enjoyed the challenge of the Sunday Leagues and there was some very good sides but it is OA Sunday Football in & around the cities of South Yorkshire and you need to...

New/ returning. Advice for Sheffield/ South Yorkshire

I left Sheffield in 2020 but I imagine things haven't changed much. I would recommend the Sheffield Fair Play League. It's Saturday 10.30am and open age. It's the only league I've ever experienced that doesn't appoint referees centrally and its actually up to each club to find referees for...

First game - random / probably obvious question

Pretty much this. When I started refereeing in the Sheffield Sunday leagues & Sagurday morning league I'd take a thermos flask and pour myself a brew at half time. Sometimes I'd chat to people (not the teams as they're all having team talks) or sometimes just have my drink. One tip (especially...
