    Jimenez Double Yellow

Maybe its a US thing. Was the second yellow for Delay or FRD? If the referee was telling the defender to give 10 yards, that's new as I posted a thread about this. Its abused in Premier and the refs allow failure to retreat (there's a FK later with 2 mancity defenders, within 10, preventing a...

    Delaying the Restart

I had missed the 2YC and only caught a glimpse. Now, after seeing the replay, I wonder whether it was FRD. In the US soccer ref training and videos, the free kick law 13 videos have several scenarios. A Statue is almost an auto YC. But, the retreat of ten yards, or lack thereof, is treated...

    Long armpit

Mancity v Wolves, another armpit call. This time PK. Looks like sleeve, not arm. His arm was above his head, but it does look like body and arm sleeve to me.

    Delaying the Restart

Man City and Wolves. Red card...2yc...FRD Funny that FRD is called, yet immediately later ManCity has two defenders within 10 yards preventing a free kick pass. Its ok to violate the 10 yard requirement. Just dont stick your foot out.

    Sweeper Keeper

Since the foul was 'careless', no card. If two defenders are closer to the goalline, the keeper is basically a field player playing defense. The 4 P's aren't met. Direction to goal, distance to goal, distance to ball, number of defenders. Number of defenders are 3. That leaves tactical...

    Coventry vs Birmingham

Since referees dont read minds, its why handball and fouls arent based on this. Its the action, not the intent, that is considered. We dont ask was the arms spread out on purpose. We ask if they are in an unnatural position. Did it make them wider? If the player cleats someone, we dont...

    Delaying the Restart

I have to ask as its eating me. At what level of play is a statue at a free kick not a warning then a YC? I watch a lot of English and German league pro soccer to learn. The Premier league's allowance for failing to retreat 10 yards on FK, statues, kicking the ball away, taking the ball for a...

    Strange Kick Off

There was a female professional club that did this all the time. Not exactly who, but they had strong forwards and fast. The pressure on the defense worked so often that it was expected. I agree its more a turn over, but if a defense isnt ready, it could be used effectively if not used often.

    AVL v LC goal disallowed

My announcers at half time and after the game kept saying it should be a goal. Ridiculous.

Preventing the ball from being played - restart

I find higher level play, with opponents nearby, the player on the ground tries to play the ball away from their dangerous position. Its more wait and see and act. Young players and recreation leagues, I call it quicker.

    Long armpit

I figured PK because the defender moves right to left, positioning in front of the opponent and as they moved, their arm was outstretched, making them bigger as the moved. I thought the ball was below the armpit level.

    AVL v LC goal disallowed

I believe the call is correct...no goal. The keeper Schmrlichel had control of the ball. Hand on top of the ball and the ground underneath. Right from the law. The arguments about the exception means no control, IMO, is a poor interpretation of this play. The exception is a ball rebounding...

    Tolerance levels

I have more cards for high school games than my other matches. I had more cards in semi finals and finals than normal games. For youth games, under 14, it happens. I tend to give more cards, or should I say some give less...because they dont like game reports.

    Pitch inspections

Strange. Every match I do involves inspection, regardless of weather. I have never accepted non-referees to clear a field for play. I, and my ARs if I have them, inspect. I have found goals not properly secure, sprinkler systems not safely concealed, damaged fields, etc. If it isn't safe...

Changing my mind based on players reactions

I've done the 'gotta talk to the AR' option. Sometimes the AR says, "You were right" and that makes it easy. Call stays. AR says say it different...corner. Why? They had a better look. No clue...okay, could go with the flow and change to corner, but I prefer to keep the AR conference to 1...

    Coventry vs Birmingham

Player throws a punch and misses the opponent's head. Player throws a punch and nicks opponent. Player throws a punch and nicely lands it. Player throws a punch and the opponent, definitively decked, is knocked out. Replacing punch with kick. Maybe it is a US thing or local thing, but all...

    Not so basic tips

Try to glance a bit longer at the player who just kicked it with an opponent nearby. I learned I'd follow the ball, which means my eyes would, and I'd miss the contact after the kick. Players would pull a stunt figuring I'd turn to follow play and give a bump on the opponent. Even a brief...

    Farcical conditions

Goal kick goals are very possible compared to a few years ago. The ball is in play when kicked and moves. It used to be necessary for the ball to leave the 18. So, as an AR, I'd line up with the PA line on goal kicks. A powerful winds on a flopped goal kick could go in and never left the 18.

    Just don't know

I asked my assigner for some kid games. As an older adult, I was being assigned older players, and being new, was difficult. Doing games of 6 to 9 years olds, the 'joy' the kids show will rub off on you. At those ages, the games are more fun than serious (except the parents)
