    Time Wasting

Totally agree. I like to search (and search) for videos of specific fouls, particularly cards, for education. When I see YC for delay of game, I cheer. Foul: opponent kicks ball away, picks up ball and walks away with it, becomes the statue, retreats to 2 yards and not 10. Ceremonial. Ref...

    Aston Villa v West Ham

I would have gone with two red cards. However, with one exception. I was already told that I can't get promoted because I call my games using the LOTG, any modifications to the game, and I don't care if the players are trying to get on a college team, loss of scholarship, they're sitting on a...

    Awful mistake

The newspaper article had the video of the FK, pass, and then pass to keeper and goal.

    Considering quitting refereeing

I just left the hospital a week ago thanks to CV and I now need to learn to breathe with and eventually without help. I have been a referee for years because I love the game. For me, its my motivation to make me make it back. I will have to accept where this journey ends, but it is still my...

    Chelsea v Norwich

At 13:00. It looks like the ball is heading towards goal before the touch. I am looking at the offensive player's position and kick to place the ball on goal. The defenders deflection of the ball is away from goal. To me, shot was on goal. Yellow is being nice.

    Cautions in youth football

Then as a ref in your next game, you get the "Why cant I wear my earrings under tape? Why can't I jump at my opponent with my knees in the air like a keeper to protect myself? I can't call you that?" We help each other when we call it when needed.

    Safety V Rights

I was a coach of a player, 8 or 9 years old. They had a medical issue. Simply put, a weak chest. They asked me not to use them as a goalkeeper, but his doctor recommended the sport to build his stamina. So, here is a kid with a potential health issue. I am an unpaid volunteer coach for the...

    Cautions in youth football

Very true. Its not that we dont card at lower age groups. Its just usually not necessary for game control and flow. Whistles are sufficient as well as warnings. Its just that odd player that feels a need to earn it.

    Tim Melia - bodyslam

Wow no red. Even if I consider my orange card, I cant unsee this but a red.

    Cautions in youth football

I gave a straight red, DOGSO, in a u14 match as the defender simply dove and tackled the forward from behind, grappling their hands at the feet. I apply the LOTG as written, understanding the nuances of age, skill, etc. Sometimes, you just have to do it (cards). I remember having a U10 match...

    Dropped ball dilemma

Okay, here's something I didn't realize and now have to watch. Dropped ball procedure "All other players (of both teams) must remain 4m (4.5yds) from the ball until it is in play." So, the ball was in play when it touched the ground, but I see at least three players, other than Fernandes...

    Dropped ball dilemma

Clip of the dropped ball. Looks like he's proper distance. To me, GK as there was no other player's touch.

defenders pushing in the penalty area

The first corner kick, the first free kick, the first throw-in. To me, I make my presence known when the shenanigans start. Some games, its not until the 2nd half, but I get those games where immediately, there's pushing/shoving/grabbing on the corner, statues on free kicks, and taking great...

Is impeding the opponent a technical offence or a normal offence

Examples: Team A attacker runs for ball in 18, Team B defender shields ball within playing distance, and keeper picks up ball. Same, but this time the Defender is shielding, facing the Team A's player outside the 18, and keeps moving to prevent Team A player from going around them, and keeper...

    Strangest thing you've seen

I had both teams at a varsity highschool game use their school bags and soccer bags to hold the nets to the back bar of the frames. The frames were secured, but the netting was loose and the typical sandbags were ripped open at both ends. The school's field crew wasn't around to fix it and...

    Threshold for OFFINABUS

I agree. My associations have a few choice words they're tired of and want the RC produced. If we had simply enforced some decorum it wouldn't have needed to become required. Personal, public, provocative is my gauge.

Open Age After almost 8 years - It's Over!

I almost had an abandoned game due to leaves. The field was cut, grass perfect height. Lines drawn. Had a windstorm hit a couple days before. I arrived early and couldnt find the touchline as it was covered with leaves along one entire side. When both teams arrived, I showed the coaches...

    Regaining Control

I'm in the US. I have ARs. The only time I have club linesmen is if an AR fails to show. In my games, a linesman can only signal one thing: ball out of play. The flag goes up if the entire ball leaves play. They dont determine restart direction, fouls, or offside. They must mirror the...

    Regaining Control

Two possibles. Sometimes you'll get a gentleman's pk done...they're rare, but the kicker will shank it knowing it wasnt right. Thats sweet. But, I'd go chat with the AR most likely to have seen it right. Yeah, not a PK, was not what I thought. Back to game, no PK, sorry, making sure we...

    I Got The Ball Ref

I had teacher of coaches ask me how I would get a foul from a challenge where the ball was touched first. Being at the soccer field, with balls and a few players, I did some demonstrations. I take the player A who got the ball first and they lie on the ground. I take player B and I say...
