This is kind of how I explained it to the attacking manager.
The original tackle did not stop an obvious goal scoring opportunity - it was just a standard fouls in the area ball was long gone. The resulting play was a better opportunity - an obvious goal scoring opportunity that the player...
I know we have spoken about this before however..
Situation: attacking player is taken out in the box as the ball comes across, ball breaks to another attacking player who has a good shot on goal which is parried by the goal keeper and out for a corner.
Is there anyone here who would be...
Absolutely fine.
However - I had no way of knowing if his angle was blocked or if he had made the decision to not give the penalty until he came over and told me. At that point I’m telling him it’s a stonewall penalty as it was so obvious.
Hi all
What are peoples instructions regarding the giving of penalties to NAR? Buzzer and non buzzer.
I had to give a stone wall penalty at the weekend that the referee missed and I followed his instructions to buzz but to flag.
We got the correct decision in the end but it caused a bit of...
Simon Hooper is quite far away from the challenge. Impossible to see properly from there. Not saying he should have been closer as he obviously was expecting the play to move forward so was preparing for that. The assistant was probably closer to it than him!
I think this topic has been raised before and I know some of the answers to this but:
I have been placed on a fixture that I have since found out, last year had 5 red cards and was a very ill tempered match.
Apart from the obvious advice about not to expect too much and it might not be like...
If it were me and I’d just been starting out, I would really be trying to focus on the very basics throughout.
Try not to worry about anything other than getting in a good position to see a foul and giving it or not. Sell your decisions. If you don’t give a foul after a collision - great...
Again though, rarely would you signal a free kick without a verbal explanation or at least a pre instruction to enable the player to not commit the offence. The law doesn’t require you to verbalise this you just do it because it’s common sense and makes you a better referee.
I won’t be giving...
Point taken. Same with something like handball though in my opinion.
All I believe that I can do is try to be consistent across a single game. Easier said than done.
Controversial opinion:
I understand the law is potentially unclear.
What I can’t understand is how this is being made so complicated. Count down 8 seconds from when you think the keeper has control of the ball shout out from 5 and put your hand in the air. Give a corner if you get to zero.
The classic ones are the other way round .. referee gives foul and manager says ‘can’t you help him out there ref!’ I’m sorry but this flag can’t ‘undo’ fouls I’m afraid 😂
I’m seriously considering adding this topic to my pre match brief with managers - they are just trying to look for inconsistencies so that they can moan even more
