Crystal Palace v Grimsby third round, Martin Atkinson cautions a Grimsby player for a challenge and then following consultation with VAR sends the player off.
Irrespective of the technicalities (regarding what was said between the officials etc) I fail to see how that is not the VAR effectively...
But VAR is not being implemented in games played in front of next to no spectators, hence the concern about how it will affect the spectators' experience is a valid one.
Is it not valid as someone who attends football and loves it partly because of the flow of the game to worry how VAR will affect that.
As said the principal is good but it’s perfectly alright to worry about the time taken. I’ve seen games at the World Cup (both women’s this year and men’s last...
Fair enough.
I just don’t think the system works particularly well.
As my dad said this morning we could have people missing the last train home for night games if referees are going to be expected to run over to a monitor and spend 2-3 minutes watching an incident multiple times a game.
The...
Could not agree more. I’m a Premier League season ticket holder so have seen it in operation for a few cup games. You definitely celebrate less when a goal is scored now if it looks marginal as to offside etc. Part of what sets football apart from other (admittedly far higher scoring) sports is...
Strange that he seemed to wait for a signal from the assistant for the Swansea penalty, and then didn't for the Man City penalty where the assistant probably had a better view of the challenge.
I’m going to an event that Jon Moss will be attending next week.
As said above nothing that can be done in the laws but I might ask if the referee can do anything to defuse that situation. Not sure there really is mind...
Disgraceful from Arrizabalaga by the way.
Also in this case do we think the assistant referee should have forced Taylor's hand by visibly flagging?
Not that he should have had to in the first place mind as it was extremely clear what was happening.
Yes I absolutely agree, but he explained it as not even being worthy of a caution.
To cop out of the mandatory red card for OFFINABUS is one thing. To not even deem it dissent or USB for adopting an aggressive attitude beggars belief.
Peter Walton explained it as passion on BT Sport and appeared to justify not cautioning.
Not sure that I'd tolerate that passion on a Sunday morning...
Is there not the risk here though that referees do not judge decisions on their merits?
A preconceived idea that the player might 'cheat' runs the risk of the player not getting a free kick for a genuine foul (as happened before the Zaha incident on Wednesday).
I also think it's dangerous to...
Sorry but this I must object to!
To say he failed at Man United is harsh beyond belief! Went aged 20 having never lived away from home before and wasn’t given a chance by Moyes who, if were being honest, isn’t known for choosing flair players.
Also he chose to play for the team of his birth...
I will start off by admitting that I am a Palace fan so I am not completely impartial but that is an odd comment when players such as Hazard have also called for more protection.
Zaha completely deserved his red card but I do sympathise as he is on the receiving end of some terrible fouls...
