It was all going so well...

I had my fourth and final assessment of my level 7 to 6 promotion quest. The previous 3 assessments were good, getting better with each one. I had done a few higher level games recently and loved it with confidence high. Then today happened... Sunday league cup game, some minor dissent in first...

    Ringers!!

I turned up to a match. 45 mins til kick off home team said they will be lucky to have a full team today. Only 9 players have confirmed so far... half hour later they hand me a team sheet with a full starting 11 and 4 subs! Apparently they all got the messages eventually.....

    Not new but hi all

I spent a period away. When i joined there was a guy who seemed to want to fight all players and the argued he was right. Said he was a new ref. What ever happened to him?

    Rare Occurrance Test

Villa vs Swansea... Villa defender just outside PA, near the goal line, not being closed down very quickly at all. Ball is at his feet. He chips the all up, does a couple of keepy upys before heading ball back to the keeper. Keeper catches the ball. Nothing given by the ref. No complaint from...

    Wear this ref

I did ask the question of both teams whether they had any alternative socks as this would of simplified the situation but at this level they didnt have it. I was even asked before the game if I had a spare pair of socks as a player left theres at home!!! The game was played and luckily no...

    Wear this ref

If I was allowed to wear them, I would invest and carry different coloured tops. As the county tell us we must wear black, thats what I wear. Glad you agree. And no matter how much the manager claims it, im sure 'last weeks ref' didnt think it was a good idea either!

    Wear this ref

My match on Sunday, I was in the normal black kit. Home team wore dark navy blue tops. Away team in gold tops. Both teams in black shorts and socks. Half time comes and a few of away team players ask me to put on a bid as because of the low sun, they couldnt tell difference between me and the...

    Let’s see what happens

I do the same thing and typically have the ball in a neutral zone before blowing as most players are then usually within sight. This was advice given by another ref. Helps if any afters were to occur from the match after the whistle whilst still on the FOP.

Quick question about leaving the field

A piece of advice I was given by an assessor was to hold off with the card. Sort the injured player first to allow quick treatment and take your time issuing a card. Not always possible if game control is at risk by not being quick to take action but if you can prolong the card, the player can...

My first line and my first taste of OA football.

Thats tough, but a good experience if the ref has helped by giving clear instructions so you understand what you have to do. My first time as senior AR I had a penalty against the home team in my half of the pitch (although towards opposite side) after 20 seconds. Ref gave it. Spoke to me. I...

My first line and my first taste of OA football.

Tell the referee in advance this is your first game. Any decent referee will give you a good, clear brief before the match and help you where possible. Know what the good book says as mentioned before and definitely look at the diagrams. Most importantly enjoy it! Mistakes will happen but its a...

    How unsporting

It depends om the individual whether they cam handle it or not. Some could. Many cannot. As for going for promotiom, I think that will help him significantly. Maybe he had a bad game that day or his inexperience shows through. At least if going for promotion he willl learn the expectations and...

    How's the sin bins going?

Red for VC. Was just pure stupidity from the player. Not a hard kick but definitely a kick with intent.

    Cro V England

If your looking for an alternative, Steve Bruce is available 😉 although I agree there doesnt seem to be any kind of break in the championship except the occasional excitement of internationals.....

    How's the sin bins going?

Tbh i would say that could be classed as AA as long as you didnt see the initial disagreement as dissent. I think the warning was more referees not using the sin bin as they dont like it and covering it up by putting dissent cautions through as AA...

    How's the sin bins going?

Only one experience of the sin bin this season. I was AR. Player gave dissent to ref and was rightly sent to the sin bin. Player returned 10 mins later. 5 mins after that the player kicked out (petty stuff) at another player after a tackle and was sent off. He didnt calm down or learn his...

From watching North West Counties games

I agree completely. My point was more players wont take the risk of taking a freekick quickly as the blame is then upto referees opinion. And its another reason why turning your back on the ball.to get into position is a bad thing, although I have seen quite a few lower level refs do this.

From watching North West Counties games

If a kick is taken with a player close to the ball deliberately, then in law that is a team choice and play continues. Only if they try taking it quickly and the player not respecting the distance deliberately moves to block the ball is it then a caution. Teams would have to be very careful...

    Call-off a game

Its upto the individual referee to track appointments. You are then given a form to complete to send to all of your leagues. This form will list your match details and have a section which the league complete to confirm your club marks.
