This was back in my first days of reffing when I trusted players were honest, the lotg were called rules and nothing could possibly go wrong..... 🤔🙄🙈 now back then I was naive haha
Easily done. When I started reffing I also done some of the 6-a-side leagues and was told cards, note pad and whistle provided. I turned up and none were available. I had a spare whistle in my car but no note pad.
First match. High scoring. Asked what the score was at then end and no one...
I blew for a direct free kick for a trip. The defender caught the players ankle from behind. Very obbious decision. The defender asked why and whilst the attacker placed the ball i told the player whilst moving into position it was for a trip. The attacker took it immediately after that...
I definitely take on board most advice I get on hear and try to use it where possible. I didnt take anything as harsh and just seen it as direct advice from a more experience ref.
To a certain extent I agree this game would probably not have gone well without a strong approach. I feel I have...
Well after all of that, the game has been called off. Turned up and the pitch is waterlogged. Even inspected a second pitch and that was waterlogged too. Games being called off in May!!! Madness.
Please do not get me wrong, I am not naive in my expectations of their behaviour but will judge their behaviour on todays events alone.
If theres any sign of an issue it will be dealt with immediately. No nice talking to as I know from experience how I will have to handle it.
I would say I am...
I wont reference the last game. Treat it as water under the bridge. Its a new match and we go again. It was first time I reffed that team so maybe it was a one off and I was the unlucky one. At least I am cautious this time and can react appropriately if required. Thanks for the advice. Will let...
I met my observer and he arrived one hour beforr the match, grabbed a tea and a chair whilst we chatted for 5 mins then said speak to you at the end. He then watched and left me to it and didnt even acknowledge me until after the match. Only thing he said in the period was well done on getting...
Interesting he felt they should be rechecked. If they were checked sufficiently at first inspection there shouldnt really be a need. I understand the point as it is done typically by the assistants at the starts of each half at higher level matches. Did the observer also advise about rechecking...
Thanks for all the advice. I have slept since the appointment was made. Head clear and ready to go this evening (weather permitting again!!!). I will at least be prepared knowing how it could go and be pleasantly surprised if it all goes well. I wont be changing anything I wouldnt normally do as...
After being ref for a match last month where it ended with 2 booked for dissent during the match, then after the final whistle 1 more booked for dissent and a red for OFFINABUS all for the home team, and received a threat in the car park after the match, I have been allocated to another of their...
My assessor said he would be there 45 mins before kick off. He turned up 1 hour before kick off to make sure I was on time. I already had arrived when he got there. I did my pitch inspection before the players had gone out to warm up whilst he was sat having his tea. He spoke to me after saying...
I would like to think punishment for the club and/or manager. Unfortunately I can see a case for suspension for the lino too in this situation. It would be hard to argue against either in this situation. Saying that, I have no experience of a situation like this so just my thoughts really.
Sounds like a correct decision. Was it tackling the player on the ball? If so, its unlikely to be VC. Was it dangerous? If not dangerous, its not SFP. Yellow for stopping a promising attack.
An example of this was Henry Lansbury getting a red card for Aston Villa last season for delibrately...
Thats where player mentallity needs to go and official mentallity is needed. I sympathise with you as firstly, no one should have to be put in that position by a manager and secondly, that is not an easy change to make.
Just keep going, keep learning and don't be so defensive about your...
All I see is the fact you was a lino and not the ref and he was the manager not a player. Both points completely irrelevant.
The manager lost his head. Over stepped a mark big style in way that should never be tolerated. You cant send him away as your not the ref. What you can do is stand your...
Player equipment checks are a requirement. Simple as that. You are right in saying most of the time you will have no issues with player equipement. But what about that one off match where a player has a broken stud. Maybe he doesnt even know its broken. What if a player is wearing a ring with a...
Thanks for the advice Rusty. I agree it would be easy to get caught out by a short corner being at the back post. Will definitely take the advice onboard.
Just to had my report through giving me the comments I already mentioned. I got standard expected on a normal difficulty game so overall...
Interesting to hear the variation in advice for positioning. My assessor did say although he sees that as a big no no, the best position in any match was one where you make the right decision. If you can see the issue and make the correct call your positioning was usually good.
