    Manchester City v PSG

For the penalty t the appeals were so strong from PSG that you'd think it was a nailed on penalty. Perhaps that influenced the ref?

    Open Age Poor quality balls

I did a men’s Saturday afternoon game yesterday at a public park. Mid way through the second half, we ended up in a situation where 2 of the home team’s match balls had been lost along with 1 of the away team’s match balls. We were left with Nike training balls which you could see had a...

    U14s swearing

I did a u14 youth game last weekend and was called ”a f*cking pr*ck“ by a player so he was given a straight red. Someone confronted me after the game and wanted to know why I sent him off. I asked him who he was and he told me that he was the boy’s dad. To his credit he made the boy apologise...

    Advice for Young/New Referees

I think your question is very broad, what exactly would you like advice on?

    First match back

My observation seemed to go pretty well. I missed a yellow card I should have given (observer said he wouldn't have pulled me up if I gave a red which didn't even cross my mind) but the main points were positive. I found my concentration going in the last 10 minutes, I was pleased to blow the...

    First match back

I’m being thrown in the deep end tomorrow. First game back and my 2nd 7 > 6 observation. I know i’m lucky to have the observation but I’d rather it be in 3-4 games time when I regain my confidence after a couple of tough games before lock down.

    An odd comment today.

My son plays mini football in goal and I support him (or annoy him depending on how you look at it) by standing at the end where he is playing. There is a respect barrier and no one should be standing behind the goal. I will change ends at half time and often stand with the opposition parents...

    Open Age Added on time

I've already put it through now. In the league report I mentioned why the manager was given a card rather than the manager but I didn't create an extraordinary report in wholegame, rather just a caution to the manager.

    Open Age Added on time

I don’t think I explained that part very well. The ball was in play when he said it, the next time the ball went out of play was on my final whistle so that’s what I acted. Stopping the game is a good suggestion, I’ll use that tip next time.

    Open Age Added on time

An interesting situation towards the end of the match. I ref on a league with roll on roll off subs, in the second half one team used 5 and the other 3. There was a sin bin I had to deal with, a couple of stoppages for injuries, 2x yellow cards. I added on 3 and a half minutes. There was one...

I’m too lenient and it backfired today

Small update after yesterday’s game. I tried to keep myself out of trouble and going back to basics as much as I could. 2 yellows, 1 sin bin and 1 yellow to a manager after the game. My tolerance levels were lower, I still copped some grief and low level abuse but my match control wasn’t...

I’m too lenient and it backfired today

Since July 2019. I’ve done around 20 games and 7 lines in that time.

The finger grip is fantastic when compared with an elastic strap around your wrist. A game changer!

I’m too lenient and it backfired today

Thanks for each of your comments. I've read each of them over the past few days and I appreciate the support. It seems I'm not alone having a game like this and I'm keen to get back on track next week. I won't lie that I have thought "why am I doing this?" and "do I need the hassle when I could...

I’m too lenient and it backfired today

I lost control of the match today. The amount of abuse I received and the confrontation at the end by supporters accusing me of cheating is not an experience I’d like to repeat so I’m trying to take some learning points away to turn it in to a positive. Here’s what happened for context...

    FIFA 21 Advantage

I noticed while playing my son's FIFA 21 that there is now a timer that counts down the period of advantage and you can also press L2 + R2 to take the free kick rather than the advantage. Wouldn't that be a useful feature in real life? :)
