    Goal Kicks

I read in The Soccer Referee's Manual, Third edition, 2000 by David Ager in unit 6, part 2 - the goal kick, that 'the ball can be placed anywhere in the goal area. In an effort to speed the game up, goal kicks may now be taken from anywhere in the goal area.' Even though, as stated by...

I thought the 'snood' was banned.

I'm not having a go at the ref here, as MattyontheWhistle says, it looks bloody cold. Maybe the ref thought bugger this for a game of soldiers (or the German equivalent) these are frauleins, it's cold, I'll deal with the FA complaints later!

    Same Colour Shorts

I always thought that was a referee preference as I'd never seen it written that shorts must be changed as well as shirts. I grew up seeing on tv, Manchester United, changing their shorts to black when away to Leeds United for instance. I am used to refereeing rugby matches where the home team...

I thought the 'snood' was banned.

Ref Groupie, it's the second set of photos I was referring to VfL Bochum 2 DJK Arminia Ibbenburen 0. They've added a new report to this site since!

Players getting booked for celebrating goals

I saw in the Brighton - Arsenal cup tie one of the Arsenal players being booked for celebrating his goal. I know he ran over to the Gunners fans and he was right at the front of the stand whilst celebrating a goal. This is what gets me about some edicts handed down to officials. This guy has...

    LotG app for iPod/Phone

Thanks for the replies guys. I don't know if you can Ross. If you were able to I wouldn't be able to manage it as I'm a technical idiot. I have to get my 15 year old lad to show me how to do even the most simple things on the ipod/PC

    LotG app for iPod/Phone

I have downloaded the official IRB laws of rugby union on my iPod and was wondering if there is a FIFA equivalent, ie the LotG, to download. I've searched the net and app store and could only find an American app which has it, but as an add on to it's US Soccer rules and it's not right good! I...

Jostling, shirt pulling etc at Corners & FKs

Is there a reason why we see referees only having words with players in the box when they're shirt pulling, grabbing and pretty much wrestling with each other. Surely a yellow card and changing a FK or corner into a penalty if it's the defending team transgressing would sort it out?

Penalised for jumping to head the ball

Thanks Tealeaf. That goes a long way to explaining things and I appreciate from rugby reffing that the official is nearer the action than even some of the players, and certainly spectators, and can see these things clearer.

Penalised for jumping to head the ball

Just a general match incident question here. I've seen this in various games, when two players jump together to head the ball we sometimes see one getting penalised for 'elbows', that is making contact with the opponent. As I see it when you jump in the air you usually use your arms in a...

    Drug trsting

That's interesting. What is the procedure for getting around the regulations. I mean for instance, you've got to take these medications for asthma, would you get an exception if you notified the FA beforehand of the drugs you are using for your conditions? Or would you be made to take medication...

Are you reading a football related book at the moment?

I've just started with Bob Wilson's Life in the Beautiful Game which I've borrowed from the library. Then after that I'll read 'Stamping grounds - Liechtenstein's quest for the World Cup' by Charlie Donnelly. It came out in 2002, I read it from the library, but found it in my local Age Concern...

Are you reading a football related book at the moment?

If so what is it, and is it any good? I'm currently re-reading 'Inverting the pyramid, the history of football tactics' by Jonathan Wilson. I would heartily recommend this book to anyone with an interest in football.

    Eh Up!

Although I have already posted on this here forum I thought I'd introduce myself. I'm a Yorkshireman by birth but raised in a midlands family and moved all over the place as my dad was in the Armed Forces, so I've seen most of the UK and Europe. After I left the RAF myself I settled down with...
